One of the biggest mistakes couples make during their session?

Thinking the goal is to look at the camera.

The best photos usually happen when you forget I’m even there.

Talk to each other. Tell stories. Point out things you notice. Hold hands because you want to, not because I asked you to.

Your engagement session isn’t a test of how photogenic you are. It’s just an excuse to spend an evening together while I document it.

Every wedding package I offer includes a complimentary engagement session because I want us to get to know each other before the wedding day.

I had a shower conversation with myself this morning and here’s what I think.

I don’t think nostalgia is about wanting to go back to how things were.

I think it’s about remembering who we were.

When we’re young, we spend so much time imagining the person we’ll become. We picture a future version of ourselves that’s bigger, wiser, more interesting, and successful.

Then we get there.

And somewhere along the way, we realize the things we miss most were never the places we lived or the years that passed.

We miss how easily we found joy. How curious we were. How fully we lived inside each moment.

Maybe nostalgia isn’t asking us to go backward.

Maybe it’s quietly asking us to find those parts of ourselves again.

Engagement sessions don’t have to feel like a photoshoot.

I don’t believe the best photographs come from squeezing an hour’s worth of poses into sixty minutes. More often than not, they come from slowing down and actually living together.

With Sara and Thomas, we spent the evening chasing the sunset at Black’s Beach. We hiked down the cliffs, shared a bottle of soju, talked about life, watched the sky change colors, and ended the night with pizza at Pizza On Pearl.

Somewhere in between all of that, we made photographs.

The goal was never to create perfect poses. It was to create a memory worth remembering.

Every wedding is edited differently.

My work has never been a “slap a preset on and call it a day” kind of process. There isn’t one look that works for every wedding, because every wedding is different.

Different light. Different skin tones. Different locations. Different moods.

Some galleries lean more film-inspired. Some feel cleaner and true to life. Some moments are better in black and white. Others call for a more editorial approach. And sometimes the light is so perfect that the photo barely needs anything at all.

A few years ago I stopped relying on a single preset because I realized every moment asks for something different. Instead, I edit each image intentionally while making sure the entire gallery still feels cohesive from beginning to end.

Here are a few before-and-afters.
