“Rebel” 2021
When coming up with the concept for this shoot I wanted to incorporate futuristic elements (the Jetsons, clear materials, the mod period of the 60s, space/futuristic vibes) with space and the unknown. When pitching this to a creative team I realized that most people don’t put space/ future with the ocean, so I was met with some apprehension. To be fair, I’ve seen countless images with deserts, arid/ barren, even sterile or industrial locations placed with a futuristic vision but typically the ocean doesn’t fit the mold.
Why is this? The sea (to this day) is yet to be fully discovered; much like the future/space and at its greatest depths is a universe all in itself (dark, mysterious and inhabited by things that would be alien to the majority of us).
I don’t typically allow people to peer into my creative process but I wanted to share this because being a photographer is more than snapping photos. You have to sell your vision, put together a team, coordinate the setting, place, time, ensure that everyone has availability and can work together cohesively, direct the model/creative team etc...and that’s all BEFORE the shoot even takes place. 😝
Stay true to yourself even when it’s not easy and keep going.
