One thing that I don’t talk about a lot, but is literally a part of my every day, is design. I love architecture, art & design, and of course fashion.

I suppose I’ve been looking at southwestern ranch and adobe style for too long because I got really excited for some brownstone and even more excited for the art deco details in these buildings.

Every building has a story and the design behind it is equally as fascinating to me.

I’m not sure what draws me to shapes and lines so much but I absolutely love it!

A quick introduction, since there are quite a few new faces here.

I'm Heather!

Before photography became my career, I spent years drawing people. I studied fashion design in Europe with a specialty in knitwear. I learned how line, shape, fabric, silhouettes, and form change the way we see someone.

I've never really stopped doing those things. The trouble was that they never taught us how to run a business and without a bankroll, I couldn't pay my student loans and afford to intern for free for at least two years.

So, what was a side-hustle for many years became the main event. Years later, my work sits somewhere between portraiture, fashion, and observation. I'm interested in identity and exploring everything around it. That, luckily, is something that gives my life meaning everyday. I want to know the story beyond the surface.

Whether I'm photographing a founder, a family, a brand, or a personal portrait, I'm usually looking for the same thing, (i'll go into that in another post).

There are certain photoshoots you remember every detail. They play over and over in my head. I found this is because I was totally present...something I prepare for before each session. I have a routine to get in the right headspace to connect and create.

This day was a cool sunny day in June. The sun was hot and i mean, hot. The marine layer left around 10am along with any shade. We were in a time crunch with the tide coming in at my favorite spots, so we went as fast as we could.

Looking back, I think that's why I still love these images so much. There was no time for perfecting every pose, we just went with it and she nailed it!

He was a prime example of the power of what confidence can do in an instant.

Listen Up! You need to read this book ASAP. Don't overthink it, just read it, and get back to me.

For authors and speakers especially, the business portrait has to hold more than appearance. It has to feel connected to the voice behind the work.

Also, you need to book a Branding Session ASAP. Don't over think it, just do it lol 😭 🤣
