50 years ago in a church in San Juan Capistrano, California my parents were married. HS sweethearts since they were 14 years old. My mom passed away a few months ago and even though she’s not with us physically to celebrate this milestone with my dad today doesn’t mean it’s not worth celebrating.

NDA but make it Italian 🇮🇹

I don’t get to share many of the couples I photograph. In a time where privacy seems rare, the trend of couples requesting their images remain private has become increasingly more normalized. That used to really upset me, sharing my work felt like some badge of honor. Bragging rights. After years of documenting couples I’ve learned that these stories are ultimately not mine to tell. I’m humbled that I get chosen to be part of an event, I’m thrilled when I get to show the world what I created but there’s also a freedom in photographing people who don’t need validation from internet strangers. Either way, I’m just thankful that in the giant never ending universe that I get to play a small part of permanently freezing some of the most cherished moments that humans share.

Yesterday at sunset I met a man on this beach in Mexico, he was here with his wife and her sisters. He shared with me that this trip was a celebration, his wife of 36 years has terminal cancer and they chose to come to this place to treasure the final moments they have left; together. He said “hug the people you love as often as can, tell them you love them. Enjoy the experiences you get to live, it can all disappear so quickly”.

I believe we sometimes forget the simplicity of enjoying life, while we’re living it. Not purposely, but because the familiarity that we assume each day is promised to us lets us focus on the smaller more mundane inconveniences and day to day plans. Sometimes it takes a powerful reminder, like loss or grief or witnessing another person struggle to be reminded that we are meant to live. Not just survive, live.

Whatever season of life you’re currently in, and I hope it’s a truly beautiful one, today for that man and his wife on that beach … live. ❤️

THE WEDDING WEEKEND

I loved getting to share this weekend of celebrating with Amanda & Matthew at La Quinta Resort & Club. Why celebrate just one day when you can celebrate multiple days at a gorgeous resort! From poolside hangs, rehearsal dinner margaritas to a full day of wedding festivities AND then an after party, this one was truly perfect. I truly loved every moment with this incredible group, the vendors who helped create this magic and most importantly Amanda & Matt.

Marriage advice from me; someone who’s been with my husband since we were teenagers and who adores every moment with the man I married. When each of you feels like you won the lottery by finding your spouse, when you consider yourself the lucky one in the relationship, you treat each other like there’s no better gift. I recognize this ability instantly in the couples I photograph, I can always tell it goes beyond chemistry.

I knew immediately the first time I spent the afternoon with Kasandra & Nic at their engagement session that they had it locked in. I loved them immensely for it. So when I say I was excited all year for this destination wedding, I mean it. It did not disappoint. So as I share some of my favorite images of the day, that are very focused on the two of them, it’s because I love the love they have.

Tess and Rory had one request, they didn’t want a formal bridal party or a stiffly structured day, they wanted it to be all about family and friends sharing moments with them.

I’ve been a wedding photographer for many years and one thing I see consistently is that the couples who have the best time choose what’s most important to them and they ignore all the rest of the noise. My advice; plan your wedding around what YOU prioritize. Not what’s popular on social media, not what your best friend did for their wedding, not what Pinterest says is the current trend. Real life is really amazing ❤️ Thank you Tess & Rory for flying across the world to share your life with me!
