Happy one year anniversary to Megan and Owen! 🥂 A summer wedding in Riverside, CT with all the elements I love: getting ready at home, a church ceremony, and a great party at Riverside Yacht Club.

A storm rolled through while Megan and Owen were inside the church, and by the time we arrived at the club, it had passed, leaving us with the most beautiful light for portraits at the water.

And what an honor it was to work with such a great team!

More than ten years ago, Eliza was one of my lighting assistants.

She was still in high school then, carrying light stands, learning how weddings unfold, and quietly helping me create photographs for other couples. Then one day she reached out to tell me she was engaged.

What I didn’t know was that, years ago, she had told her mother, “When I get married, I want Melani to be my photographer.”

There are compliments, and then there are moments like this. To be invited back into someone’s life after watching them grow up...to document the beginning of their own family...is an honor that is difficult to put into words.

Congratulations, Eliza and Paul. I still can’t quite believe we’re here.

A few scenes from a Nantucket wedding I photographed recently. On the last day of August, a little reminder that summer in New England never really leaves all at once. I loved the softness of this day, from the coastal palette to the weathered architecture and all of those little in-between moments that felt so distinctly Nantucket. One of those places that gives you something beautiful to frame in every direction.

Before Acquired Style, there was Sarah and Jack!

From St. Mary’s to Castle Hill Inn, Sarah and Jack’s wedding was Newport from beginning to end. One of those summer days that makes it very easy to understand why people fall in love with Newport.

And at the center of it all, Sarah and Jack, completely at ease with each other and very clearly having the time of their lives.

The Upper West Side has always felt like one of Manhattan’s great architectural walks. Within just a few blocks, the neighborhood moves from Lincoln Center to historic synagogues to museums on Central Park West, and that’s exactly what happened on my couple’s wedding day. Their entire celebration was shaped by these extraordinary places.

I first photographed a wedding in their synagogue in 2010. Walking back inside sixteen years later, I found myself studying the craftsmanship all over again. The carved details, the rich color, the soaring scale and a different set of family traditions and connections to the temple.

I love that on this day, a handful of New York’s most important cultural and historic institutions were a part of the family’s story, and what an honor it was to document.

The candid moments at Andie and Andrew’s wedding were so spectacular that I had a hard time choosing between color and black & white for some of my favorites.

Black & white that makes a moment feel timeless, but then the color brings you right back into the day exactly as it was.
