My final round of 40-over-40 has officially launched! If you missed the last round, now is your last chance to jump in. I’m excited for all the fun changes that I’ll be incorporating into this round. I hope you’ll join me!

I’m super grateful to be able to kick off this new round with one of my very best friends. Cheering me on, near and far, for the last 33+ years, I am so thankful for her friendship. She has always been there for me and I hope everyone is lucky enough in their lifetime to have someone like her in their lives. She was there to help me celebrate my exhibition for the first 40-over-40 portrait series, and I love that she got to be a part of the second one.

She had some challenges and unexpected curve balls thrown her way last year, but she handled them with grace. Capturing her in this season felt like a tribute and a way to honor this season of her life. And that’s exactly what I ant to do for more women. Would you like to join me?

My 40-over-40 Portrait Series is wrapping up. It has far exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait to bring you the exhibit that will showcase all of these amazing women! This event is more than just an exhibit though - it’s a community event supporting women. There will be a marketplace with women-owned businesses, a keynote speaker, a workshop, a silent auction where all proceeds go to a non-profit supporting women, giveaways, food, drinks, music, and more!

Tickets are now live for “Legacy in Motion: 40 women over 40 Owning Their Story” which will be held in Liberty Station at Brick on October 5th. Please see the link below for tickets as well as more information about the event. Early bird tickets are now on sale until the end of the month. If you’d like a special 25% discount, please DM me and I’ll send you a code!

I’ll be sharing more details about the event in the coming weeks. I hope to see you there!

I’ve been so busy with the 40-over-40 Portrait Experience that I realized I haven’t posted much about it since I started it late last year. The whole experience has exceeded my expectations. It’s been so rewarding and fulfilling to have these women come into my studio for these sessions. I have truly loved this experience, for them, but also for myself. To serve these deserving women in this way has definitely been a highlight for me since I started my business. I’m getting close to being halfway done, so if you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m planning the exhibit and celebration for all 40 women sometime in late summer!

Every month is some sort of awareness month, but October happens to be near and dear to my heart. It is Breast Cancer Awareness month AND Domestic Violence Awareness month. There are women in my life who’ve been affected by both and so I want to give back to local organizations who provide much needed support for those who have.

I’m running a “40 over 40” campaign through the studio branch of my business. It’s a portrait experience for 40 women who are in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. For every session that is booked this month, a portion of your paid session fee will go to two organizations - Breast Cancer Angels who provide assistance to breast cancer patients in San Diego and other parts of Southern California, as well as the YWCA of San Diego County who provide assistance to domestic violence survivors.

Both of these paths are difficult to navigate but if there are people and resources to help support those affected, then a little bit of hope can exist to build back up past the challenges.

This post is dedicated to all the families with older kids. So often families want to document their time together when the kids are young and playful. They’re cute when they’re little and you can snuggle them in, chase them around, or make them easily giggle. But somewhere along the way, some families stop getting family photos. This is your permission to keep documenting your time together, no matter how grown your kids get. Each phase and each season of life is just as valuable and significant. I love that this family was visiting from the Midwest and wanted to capture moments together in what the mother acknowledged as a transition period for them, knowing that the time period of becoming empty nesters was coming up quickly and it would be just a matter of time before daughters-in-law would be added to their family of 4. So whatever age your kids, whatever transition period you may be or heading towards, I hope you’ll take the time to freeze those moments. Your future self will be so grateful!

A few weeks ago, I made a long overdue, quick trip back to the East coast, to the D.C. area. It had been nearly 6 years since I had been back there and it was truly so wonderful to visit again. Since it was a short visit, I didn’t get to see everyone I would have liked to have seen, but I was able to squeeze in some time with some of my closest friends, like this couple here. I’ve known both of them for 31 years, and this mama has been my best friend through them all. I know there’s something to be said about making friends later in life as an adult, but there’s also something quite profound about making them as a young teenager, not knowing much about life or having had real life experiences or relationships, and still choosing each other to support and love through some of life’s major evolving phases. Nothing but true gratitude for that type of friendship! I will definitely be back to the area next year and I hope to be back during the peak of fall foliage, because as much as I love the beauty of San Diego, there’s nothing like seeing the beautiful warm colors on a gorgeous autumn day.

This was a special session for me because of my East Coast ties and history with this couple. I had the privilege of working with this guy in his first job out of college. The particular team we were on together will forever be seared into my memory and tucked into my heart… not because of the actual work or the hectic schedules, but because of the people. The project was extremely challenging and often felt like an impossible task, but what made the work bearable, was getting the chance to work with this guy and our fellow team members.

Eventually we were able to work together on other projects that were much more enjoyable. At one point though, I was given a tremendous opportunity to move within our organization into a very different role. I had been doing the same type of work for the previous 16 years so I was extremely reluctant to switch. And while this moment was over 7 years ago, I still remember the conversation I had with him about this dilemma. He was very supportive and helped encourage me to take that leap. I did it but found that it was not for me, so I only stayed in that position for 6 months. But I will forever be grateful for his encouragement because it helped me take other leaps from that point on… to start a business, to grow it, to take risks in my choices and decisions in running it. Not only did it help me take those leaps, but it helped me to know even if I fell flat on my face, I could get back up and try something else.

I left the company over 6 years ago and in that time, he has risen up the ranks, deservedly so, through hard work and the right attitude. To get the advice and encouragement from a rising leader was an unknown gift to me at the time, but something I value greatly in the present. So yes, this session was quite special to me because it was my way to give back for what was given to me all those years ago.
