From January to May the Childrens Pool at Casa Beach becomes a maternity ward for one of the cutest Sea mammals around. It is easy to spend all day watching the antics of these charismatic pinipeds. Don’t confuse them with the California Sea Lions that pup just a mile further north at La Jolla Cove. chrisleverphotography A Yellow-Stripe Goatfish (Weke ‘a) and Cleaner Wrasse - Maui, Hawaii, USA. Fish can’t take a bath to get clean and don’t have the hands to get those pesky spots, so in come the cleaners. Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse set up a cleaning station in a nice section of reef and clean parasites off any who wish the service. Clients, from eels, to fish, to turtles to manta rays will line up for the service and best of all, they don’t eat the cleaners!

chrisleverphotography Reef Squid with Dinner - Maui, Hawaii, USA. Cephalopods are some of the most fantastic creatures in the sea. These masters of camouflage use chromatophores to instantly change their color to match their environment or mesmerize their prey. This Reef Squid was so busy enjoying its dinner it didn’t mind my intrusive flash photography. I found this squid on a night dive off of Black Rock on Maui’s Kaanapali coast.
