About last night...
For a few brief moments , the last light moved across Russian Hill, finding one building after another before the city slipped into evening.

It was another early morning following the light around San Francisco. I had already captured some beautiful moments along the waterfront near Ghirardelli Square and was heading home when I passed these familiar boats at Fisherman’s Wharf.

I knew immediately that I had to stop.

I pulled over, switched on my flashers and reached for my camera. The harbor lights were still glowing, the sky was illuminating, and the boats rested in their reflections.

I took a frame. By the next click of my shutter, the harbor lights had switched off. The day was beginning, and that brief alignment of light was gone.

Later, looking at the photograph, I realized just how special that moment had been—and how easily I could have missed it.

Getting to witness it, capture it and now share it with you means everything to me. This is why I get up before the world is awake, always hoping to find a moment like this.

Being in the right place at the right time. Priceless.

Many of you have followed my photographs of San Francisco through fog, blue hour, and first light. This city continues to remind me that morning rarely arrives all at once.

I photographed Gathering Light during the quiet hour when the streets were still illuminated, clouds rested low beyond the bay, and the first warmth of morning began to appear. From above, it felt as though the city was slowly collecting the light before beginning another day.

Opening Diane Bentley Raymond Art has given me a place to bring these quieter moments together and present them as I have always imagined them - at scale, with room to breathe.

Gathering Light is now part of the San Francisco and From Above collections and is offered as a Limited Edition of 25.

For years, I have followed the light - through familiar streets, quiet coastlines, ancient forests, and cities awakening before the day begins.

Today, I’m very happy to share Diane Bentley Raymond Art, a new gallery bringing together the photographs that have come to mean the most to me.

So many of you have followed my journey, encouraged me, shared my work, and found something of your own within these moments. Your support has helped me arrive here, and I am deeply grateful.

It feels fitting to begin with Where Night Softens, a photograph created in that fleeting hour when darkness begins to release the city and morning quietly finds its way in.

I hope the Gallery offers you a moment to pause, wander, and experience the light with me.

Before the city fully wakes, there is a brief hour when the Bay seems to hold both night and morning.

The ships remain illuminated, the skyline slowly emerges, and the first color gathers quietly above the clouds. These are the moments I am always willing to wait for.

I’ve been a little quiet here lately - there are many exciting things taking shape behind the scenes.

But no matter what is in the works, I still love returning to favorite places in the early morning, before the city fully awakens. For a few quiet moments, it feels as though San Francisco and Ghirardelli Square are mine alone.

So many exciting things are taking shape behind the scenes, and I can't wait to share them.

This morning's reward was this quiet moment above North Beach, just as the first light found the city. It's these in-between moments, the ones that exist for only a few minutes - that keep calling me back.

Grateful for another sunrise. Grateful for the magic.

The city never greets the morning the same way twice.

Today it arrived beneath a ceiling of dark clouds, while a ribbon of golden light quietly announced the day. For a few precious moments, San Francisco existed somewhere between night and morning - neither fully awake nor still asleep.

Those in-between moments are the reason I photograph this city.

This morning, she was extraordinary.
