I always enjoy getting an order for America’s Cup images. Great memories. This time it’s for framed prints and they are ready to hang. Let’s see how this little slideshow works out….

The forecast promised clouds, and it delivered. But every now and then, the sky opened just enough for a glimpse of the blood moon. Those brief, quiet breaks made it all the more magical.

Posting on Instagram has its quirks, like not being able to mix vertical and horizontal shots in one post. Most of my photos are horizontal, but every now and then a vertical image sneaks in and demands its own spotlight. So this time, I’m sharing a set of vertical captures from my past trip to Guadeloupe.

I love catching the crescent moon as it lingers in the sky just after sunset. The sky still glows with light our cameras can beautifully capture, and those contrasting colors never fail to amaze me.

This is the spot where I’ve spent countless hours exploring the underwater world in the Cousteau Reserve in Guadeloupe, but there’s plenty of beauty to capture from the shore, too.

Some days the sky really shows off. This was from a few weeks ago when we were treated to a string of breathtaking sunsets back to back.

It’s no secret that I love underwater macro photography, but there’s so much more to see beneath the surface. These images were taken after a wreck dive, during my 3-minute safety stop at 5 meters. Another group of divers was slowly ascending nearby, their air bubbles drifting up and swirling around me. I found myself mesmerized, watching the bubbles rise and burst. Such a simple moment, and such a beautiful sight.

One of the things I truly love about diving with is the gift of time. No rushing, no pressure; just the freedom to slow down and really be with a subject. Remember, some of these dives lasted more than 90 minutes.

I spent a full five minutes with this tiny (less than an inch long!) spotted cleaner shrimp, tucked into a giant Caribbean sea anemone (condylactis gigantea). With the anemone’s tentacles moving with the flow of the ocean, capturing these images was a challenge; lost focus, tentacles drifting in front of the shrimp, the shrimp on the move and me floating in the ocean. I’m happy I came away with more than one keeper.

Which photo speaks to you the most?

I miss diving and seeing all these beautiful creatures in the ocean. The closest thing I could think of is visiting tide pools. Got lucky this weekend with a nice negative low tide.

Got to see three small octopuses (sorry, no photographic evidence), two nudibranchs (a sandalwood dorid and a noble dorid), a bat star and some other star fishes, tons of anemones, purple sea urchins and most likely thousands of hermit crabs.

Photographing in tide pools with my camera is a real challenge. This was the first time I tried it. The display is not very bright and with the day light, it's very difficult to see anything. Additionally, due to small size of these pools, I struggled to take pictures that properly framed the subject and/or that were sharp. Still, some moments were just too special not to share, even if the shots didn’t turn out exactly as planned.

Enjoy!
