Happy New Year 2026! Today, we’re sharing our full documentary, “Her Father’s Music,” which you can watch at herfathersmusic.com. As we begin the new year, we are reflecting on the journey of this film. We only intended to create a short dance video, but moved by Nina’s story of being born a refugee and becoming a ballerina, we ended up producing a film that has now been shown around the globe, touching hearts and creating new friendships. Audience members have shared with us that it inspired them to love one another, to have hope and pursue their goals, and to focus on what’s important in their lives. We're beyond grateful. Our goal has always been to share this story with everyone, so we're making the full documentary available now at herfathersmusic.com. If you like what you see, please spread the word and share, and let Nina’s story live on.

We are beyond excited! Our short documentary film, Her Father’s Music has been selected for the 9FilmFest film festival in Thailand. We're grateful for Brian Bennett at 9FILMFEST for his support of our film. Thank you Paul McCurdy, Greg and Nina Amato, and their daughters, Sofia and Masha that believe in us. This film celebrates the remarkable story of Nina Baratoff, a Russian ballerina born a refugee in 1940s China, and a former Oakland Ballet Company dancer in the 1960s.
It will be shown as part of the 12th Bangkok 9FilmFest 2025 - Saturday, November 15th, at The Friese-Greene Club (259/6 Sukhumvit 22), doors open at 7:00 p.m. Free admission. Dave will be there for a short Q&A after the screening.

Join us at the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology (2301 Vine St. Berkeley) for a film screening and discussion with the producers of Her Father's Music, a short documentary film that tells the remarkable story of Nina Baratoff, a Russian ballerina born a refugee in 1940s China. As a child, Nina danced to a piano piece her father composed just for her. Thought lost, its tattered pages were rediscovered decades later, sparking a journey of remembrance as a team of musicians, choreographers, and dancers brought the piece back to life.

Following the screening will be a discussion with the film's director, Vin Eiamvuthikorn, and UC Berkeley PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology, Ryan Gourley.
