in her weeping angel era.

Every year Promoting Passion is a joy. Each year has its own little bits of magic and memories. Its own firsts and lasts. Moments where you step just beyond your comfort zone. Ridiculous laughter and tears both cathartic and sorrowful.

Thank you to all of you who’ve made it lovely along the way ❤️

I’ve been quiet over here, I know. I’m still here but spend less time here than I used to.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what personal projects to take on next, after diving into some more mixed media self portrait for a bit, I have also been craving getting back into the studio with other artists and dancers. So, hopefully more of that coming soon too.

As for this photo, it’s actually about 2 years old and I took it at the end of a shoot I did in LA - though I did do wheel in a class recently, so definitely still bendy 😂

Mostly just stopping in to say I am still around, still taking photos and still dreaming up personal art projects (in a few forms - with some recent inspirations from friends and conversations)

Someone I knew once said, the artist’s job is to remember and remind. In a recent conversation another friend said, I know you know this, but I know sometimes we need reminders. Sometimes we all need reminders - that there is joy and beauty to be experienced, that the heavy hard times do end, that our brains (or nervous systems) can run away with us, that something happened, that something existed, that something was here.

In these chaotic and heavy times, sometimes we need reminders that we must dare to hope, reminders to take care of ourselves so we can continue to take care of others, reminders that rage and fear may fuels fires that move us to work for a world filled with more compassion, that some days will be profanity laced, some days will be all tears, and some days you’ll walk down the street watching life go on and for a moment you’ll feel that spark of hope that maybe, just maybe, it will be ok.

Find the practices that work for you, find the places you are reminded and make you remember. Remember warmth, community, calm, your stories and those of others, remember the wild ride that has led you to this point here - and to wherever it leads going forward.

Remember and remind. It sounds so simple - so easily poetic. Some days it will be, some days maybe not - but on those days, remember to look for the reminders others have left for you.

I am sure I am not the only one whose brain has been bouncing around thinking about community, compassion and empathy. About fear and disappointment. About emotions and nervous systems. About life’s challenges big and small. About problems personal and global. About what we can, should or will do in any given situation.

Sometimes you extend a hand, a hug, an olive branch… other times you cannot, should not or will not. Sometimes you get that wrong, sometimes you get that right.

Sometimes you find yourself contemplating the trees and community - their roots, branches and leaves and you are yourself a self portrait that leans a little further into the weird than before.

Creativity waxes and wanes as I move through the quiet moments, the wandering ones, the lonely ones, the absolutely wtf ones, and the ones shared with friends near and far. Sometimes it pops up when least expected, sometimes it can be summoned on command, sometimes it feels like it eludes me.

Take notice of when you feel inspired, learn to find ways to recreate those conditions (if they are positive ones), and lean into creating/doing something (even something so so so tiny) on days when it may feel difficult. And, when needed - if you can - truly rest.

I am far from having all the answers or being a particularly prolific artist, but if the past few months have reminded me of anything - creating/doing SOMETHING helps, even if you only ever do it for yourself. Even if you do it for one person. Even if you do it secretly. Though, of course, there is also something wonderful in sharing your art too.
