Some places are memorable because of the wildlife you see there. Others stay with you because of the feeling of living inside them.

This week on Seen in My Lens: Alaska, I’m sharing Camp Denali — a remote wilderness lodge deep inside Denali National Park where naturalist-led excursions, rainy tundra days, shared meals, warm cabins, and a strong sense of community all became part of the experience.

The wildlife was unforgettable, but so was the feeling of learning, exploring, and slowing into life inside the park itself.

New blog post now live:

Beyond the Pretty Rocks landslide deep inside Denali National Park, Camp Denali combines wilderness, education, community, and thoughtful hospitality. Danielle Buoncristiani shares the experience through photography, field notes, and reflections from Alaska.

These were the final days of our Alaska trip — along the Kenai River.

After so much movement, this part felt quieter. A chance to slow down, notice more, and take it all in.

Week 19 is live.

The final days of an Alaska photography journey along the Kenai River—rafting, wildlife, and quiet moments before returning home.

Week 18 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska is now live.

A quiet paddle across Pedersen Lagoon brought us to Addison Lake, where sea otters floated nearby and salmon churned the water.

Then our guide quietly said one word:

Bear.

Watching a black bear chase salmon in the wild was one of the most exhilarating wildlife moments of the trip.

Read the story and see the photographs:

Kayaking across Pedersen Lagoon led to an unforgettable wildlife moment — watching a black bear chase salmon at Addison Lake in Kenai Fjords National Park.

Kayaking toward Aialik Glacier, we could hear it before we saw it.

From nearly two miles away, a deep crack rolled across the bay. Moments later, ancient ice broke into the sea.

Week 17 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska is now live.

Read the story + watch the calving video here:

Kayaking to Aialik Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park, we witnessed powerful calving, explored ancient ice, and shared a day of connection and presence in wild Alaska.

We didn’t know where to look.

A sea otter floated beside the bow. Seagulls gathered tightly overhead. And then — a humpback whale breached.

We hadn’t even reached shore yet.

Week 16 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska is live — the journey to Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge was anything but simple.

After days of rain in Denali, the skies finally cleared — and everything changed.

Wildlife began to move again, the tundra opened up, and we were able to see the landscape in a completely different way. One of the final moments in the park was watching a moose feeding in Wonder Lake with Denali rising behind her.

Week 15 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska is now live.

Read the story here:

Two rare clear days in Denali National Park revealed sweeping landscapes, wildlife encounters, and firsthand lessons about climate change—culminating in a final morning at Wonder Lake and the journey south to Seward.

After days of rain, Denali finally came into view.

An early morning. Clear skies. Everything changed from there.

Week 14 is live.

After days of rain and waiting, Denali revealed herself at sunrise. In Week 14 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska, Danielle Buoncristiani reflects on patience, light, and one unforgettable morning in Denali National Park.

In Denali, wildlife is experienced on its own terms — distant, quiet, and entirely wild.

Week 13 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska is now live, sharing our first full day inside the park and what it asked of us as observers and photographers.

Read more here:

On her first full day inside Denali, Danielle Buoncristiani learns how wildlife here is experienced at a distance. In Week 13 of Seen in My Lens: Alaska, rain, restraint, and one unexpected fox encounter reshape how she learns to watch.
