When it comes to photographing milestones like graduations, the parts of your story that matter to you, matter to me too. If part of that story is a person, that’s important and deserves to play a part in celebrating your achievement. That’s why it’s always an added bonus for me when graduates bring their friends, family members, or (in this case), significant others along to their shoots with them. It always has a way of making the experience feel more complete somehow.

As a Cal Poly alumni, visiting San Luis Obispo for graduation photos is always one of my favorite undertakings. Planning this year gave me the opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and recap some of the places I’ve most enjoyed photographing and the graduates that made it possible. From the Escuela Ranch to Montaña de Oro, the beauty of the Central Coast illuminates graduates and serves as an excellent setting to celebrate their scholastic achievement. If I tried to fit my appreciation for these places all in one post, this caption would burst at the seams. So naturally, I put it in writing on my website. 😂 If your curiosity is piqued, it’s the first post under the Blog tab.

When it comes to portrait photography, we are blessed here in California to have some exceptional locations to choose from. Spring’s color laden wildflower boom gives way to the golden rolling hills of summer; there and everywhere in between we have our choice of select backdrops for portrait sessions. That being said, the real life and heart of the photos stems from the graduates, couples, and families that grace them. The true soul of the shoot is you.

This chilly weather sure has me looking forward to the spring photo rush and those glowing warm days ahead! Would it be weird to say this family is a photographer’s dream? I’ve had the pleasure of photographing ‘s lovely family before, and this time she brought her extended family for an evening of excellent outfit coordination and opportune golden hour light. Gotta love when a 22 person family shoot is a walk in the park. 😊
