Get all the details for experiencing Firefall! 👇🏼
🔥 Yosemite Firefall is here — here’s what to know before you go:
💬 Comment “FIREFALL” and we’ll send you our full guide with the best viewing areas, timing tips, and how to experience Firefall responsibly while helping protect Yosemite. 🔥🌲
Each February, if conditions line up just right, the setting sun hits Horsetail Fall at the perfect angle, making the waterfall glow bright orange as if it’s on fire. It’s one of Yosemite’s most iconic natural events — and it only lasts a few minutes per night. 🔥💦
There are no reservations required to enter the park this year, but Firefall still takes planning and patience. Expect heavy crowds near El Capitan, limited parking, long walks, and very limited services and staffing during this time.
If you’re hoping to experience it:
⏰ Arrive early and be prepared to wait
🥾 Expect to walk significant distances if parking fills
⚠️ Stay on designated paths and respect closures
🚮 Pack out all trash and be patient with park staff
🌨️ Know that weather, snowpack, and water flow determine whether it happens at all
Firefall is never guaranteed — clouds, low water flow, or the wrong sun angle can cancel it completely. Going in with the right expectations makes the experience far more rewarding.
