I was fortunate to photograph about 2 dozen of the therapy dogs and cats with over the winter. I love these folks and their dedication to their mission. 🥰

After a day of providing comfort and companionship to our patients, visitors, and staff, our pet therapy cats, Teddy and Grizabella, enjoyed a well-deserved "pup cup" treat! 🐱🍦

Pet therapy offers more than just cuddles – it has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and lift spirits, making a meaningful difference in the healing process. We are grateful for Teddy, Grizabella, and their dedicated handlers for bringing joy and calm to those in our care.

Below is a story from Lori about visiting with Gem.

Here's one of Gem's visits...

Gem always checks out every room or open door. She has to make sure she visits with everyone!!! As we were walking back to the memory unit, we had to walk through the assisted living unit. Gem looked into the activities room as we were passing and noticed her friends were in there playing a card game. So, in we went!!! She had a visit with everyone around the table, then was good to head back to memory care.

On the way back we met a new resident in the hallway who started to cry when she saw Gem. She sat and held Gem for a bit, then told us she had to give her little dog away when she moved into the facility. Gem sat on her lap and listened to her talk, then gave her a little lick on her cheek, and the biggest smile came across her face.

Memory care had lots of eagerly waiting friends!!! The activities director had told the residents that Gem was coming today, and they were all so excited. One resident was waiting at the door for Gem to come in. Gem was happy to greet everyone and even met a new resident. The new resident said she didn't like dogs because they bite and chase people. I told her that's fine. As we visited with the lady next to her the new resident kept watching Gem, and a smile slowly crept across her face. She said she's not like other dogs and reached over and started petting her.

My dear friend, Claudette, is fighting the big C. 😢 Please join me in supporting her through the campaign her sister is running to support her surgery. Claudette is an independent master hair colorist, and as such doesn't have access to the health insurance most employed people enjoy.

The dog treats are a "Class I" risk level, meaning they could likely cause "serious adverse health consequences or death."

Yesterday I photographed a few dogs for Therapy Animals of Utah, and learned of this gorgeous young Catalan Sheepdog who is still available for adoption (free) to a great home. If interested, the contact information is below.

Catalans are rare in the U.S., and Sashe, a neutered 2 year old male, was imported from Spain. He is currently in the Houston, TX area.

From the owner: "I have documentation for his pedigree and Angel Castillo is well known breeder of champions in Spain, I was on a waiting list to get Sashe, and I flew to Spain 🇪🇸 to bring him home.

He is ok with other dogs however depends on other dogs. He got along beautifully with a Pitbull female and a Catahoula male. I have a 9 year old child and he likes to guard him."
