When Autumn & Sierra reached out, they had one simple request: “Can we get married next week?”

A week later, we found ourselves standing at the most western point in the continental U.S., watching the sun slowly sink into the Pacific Ocean.

This place wasn’t random. It was deeply personal. Sierra had visited this coastline countless times growing up, and when they started dreaming about their wedding day, they couldn’t imagine exchanging vows anywhere else.

Everything about the day felt intentional. Autumn wore a custom-made cape that danced in the coastal wind, paired with a dress that perfectly matched the rugged, moody vibe of the coastline.

One of our favorite things about elopements is seeing couples throw out the rulebook and choose wedding attire that feels like them. Whether that’s a cape, hiking boots, a colorful suit, or something completely unexpected, your wedding day is one of the few days in life where you get to wear exactly what makes you feel most like yourself.

As golden hour faded into sunset, they exchanged vows overlooking the ocean before exploring the cliffs for blue hour portraits. The sky turned shades of pink and blue, the waves crashed below, and for a few moments it felt like they had the entire edge of the continent to themselves.

Proof that sometimes the best wedding plans start with, “What if we just got married next week?”

Warning: Opening your wedding gallery may cause uncontrollable screaming, crying, and immediate reposting to every friend you ever had. 😅

Some of the best things about creating art together with our couples is seeing their facial expressions and hearing them gasp for air when showing the final results.

The wedding industry isn’t “out of touch”…

Most couples just don’t realize what 20k actually gets you with 100+ guests in 2026 👀

And before the comments start rolling in, this post is NOT about saying small weddings are better or that everyone needs to spend more money.

It’s about expectations.

Because honestly?

We’ve seen couples create absolutely incredible wedding experiences with 15k–25k budgets.

But the difference is usually HOW they spent it.
Smaller guest counts.

More intentional priorities.

Less pressure to perform.

More room for meaningful moments and experiences.

A 20k budget can absolutely create:

→ an unforgettable oceanfront dinner
→ incredible photos
→ intentional details
→ an experience you’ll never stop talking about

…but probably not for 150 guests with every luxury wedding expectation Pinterest keeps feeding you.

And there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with backyard weddings, DIY weddings, potluck weddings, or budget weddings either.

Some of the most joyful weddings we’ve ever seen were simple as hell.

At the end of the day:

your wedding does not need to LOOK expensive to be meaningful.

But your guest count will almost always determine what kind of experience your budget can realistically create.

The North Cascades has always been one of our favorite places for elopements and small weddings. There are very few places that offer this kind of variety within a single region. Alpine lakes, rugged peaks, old growth forests, winding mountain roads, and quiet overlooks all exist within a few hours of each other, which allows couples to create a wedding day that feels fully their own.

After years of photographing weddings throughout the North Cascades, we finally put together a list of our all time favorite locations for intimate weddings and elopements. Some are perfect for couples wanting an easy and scenic experience, while others are ideal for those wanting a more adventurous day in the mountains.

These are the places we consistently return to because of how beautiful, unique, and meaningful they feel for the couples we photograph there.

Which location would you choose for your wedding day?

From messy morning hair buns to being fully glammed up, Haley + Tara planned an elopement that was as raw and emotional as it was breathtaking in the North Cascades.

Day 1 began before the world was awake—two headlamps glowing as we hiked up the mountain to catch the sunrise. In matching hiking fits, they wandered through wildflower meadows and rocky ridges, searching for the perfect spot to sit down and open letters from family and friends. For twenty minutes, the world stood still as they read kind words, inside jokes, and even hand-drawn sketches—love spilling out from the page and into the quiet mountain air. It was the sweetest reminder that even when you run off to the mountains, your people come with you in spirit.

Day 2 unfolded like a love letter to balance—private and personal moments intertwined with celebration. After getting ready, they shared a first look in the forest, exchanging vows among the ferns before reuniting with Camp Smooch (yes, their friend group has the best name ever) for a ceremony overlooking the mountains. Laughter, tears, and joy echoed through the alpine air as Haley + Tara promised forever. And when the sun dipped low, they wound down with cozy moments in their bedroom before heading to a private chef–prepared dinner—slow, intentional, and full of flavor. It was two days of love lived fully—messy, tender, adventurous, and real.

You belong here ❤️

At Running Wild Studio, we believe the elopement world should reflect the real world—full of different races, body types, cultures, identities, love stories, hair colors, styles, etc.—because everyone deserves to see themselves represented in something this meaningful. It’s not just for our past clients, but for the ones still searching—for the couples quietly wondering if they belong here, if their love fits in these wild, open spaces.

When couples can recognize themselves in the stories we share, it reminds them that their love is just as worthy, just as beautiful, and just as deserving of being celebrated. We proudly share all of our elopement clients unless they’ve asked us not to, because every story matters and every couple belongs here. If you align with our values, you align with our brand—exactly as you are. You are welcomed, you are celebrated, and you are more than enough.

Planning to get married in Olympic National Park and need a little inspiration?

Tess & Will’s beautiful micro wedding is now up on our blog (link in stories). From mountain sunrise moments to an intimate coastal ceremony, their day truly captured the best of both worlds.

They celebrated with a small private dinner surrounded by their closest loved ones, then embraced the magic of the park together at sunrise, quiet, intentional, and unforgettable.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding that blends adventure with meaningful connection, this is one you don’t want to miss.

Wildflowers really try to steal the show—but honestly, we don’t blame them.

If you’re dreaming of that perfect mix of vibrant blooms and epic mountain views, Mount Rainier National Park absolutely delivers. Late July through the first few weeks of August is peak wildflower season, when the meadows explode with color beneath the mountain.

It’s one of those places that feels almost unreal—like nature went all out just for your elopement.

You don’t have to choose between a micro wedding and an elopement — you can have both!

More and more of our couples are planning multi-day celebrations so they can spend meaningful time with family and still experience those quiet, adventurous moments together.

Samantha & Nathan did exactly that with their 2-day destination micro wedding in Ireland — celebrating with loved ones at the Cliffs of Moher, then exploring castles, chasing sheep, and sharing private vows in the Gap of Dunloe the next day.

The best of both worlds… and honestly, one of our favorite ways to celebrate.
