Amazon river dolphin (Inia geoffrensis), Rio Negro, Amazonas, Brazil
I thought if I ever had a chance to photograph a river dolphin, it would be wary and in the turbid Amazon waters the chances for success would be mediocre at best. I found that these dolphins had been habituated by local fishermen. As soon as I entered the water I was beseiged by these guys. They were bumping into me wanting a pet (as well as a treat) and completely gregarious. The best I could do was push them away, get off a wide angle shot, and then they would be back on me again.

I don't think you can view the aurora without experiencing a sense of wonderment and mysticism. This image was shot on Fujichrome Provia 400, and as I created it, I could not perceive the red light. When I got home and had the film processed, I was delighted to discover how the film had rendered the color red as part of the scene. I will be heading back to Fairbanks to photograph the aurora in February. Join me?

Thirty years ago I ventured forth to Argentina's Peninsula Valdes to photograph the orcas hunting sea lions. This is easily one of the most incredible moments I have ever witnessed as a nature photographer!
