I want to clear something up because I’ve had more than one person get upset when I wouldn’t schedule a complimentary engagement or bridal session before their wedding was officially booked.
This post isn’t directed at anyone in particular, but I’m honestly tired of having to explain a policy that seems pretty straightforward.
If you go to the store and see a “Buy One, Get One Free” sale, you can’t walk up to the register and say, “I don’t want to buy the first item, but I’d still like the free one.” The free item comes with the purchase.
The same concept applies to my wedding packages.
Some of my wedding packages include a complimentary engagement or bridal session. However, that session is part of your wedding package. It is not a standalone free photoshoot for anyone who sends an inquiry.
To receive that complimentary session, your wedding must first be officially booked with a signed contract and the required 20% retainer paid.
The reason is simple. If I provide the complimentary session before a wedding is booked and then later you decide to hire someone else, I’ve already invested my time, travel, planning, shooting, and editing into a service that was intended to be included with a wedding package.
I already charge less for weddings than I probably should, and I work hard to keep my pricing affordable while still delivering quality service and images. Giving away sessions before a wedding is officially booked simply isn’t something I can do.
The complimentary engagement or bridal session is a booking bonus for my wedding clients, not a free trial run before deciding whether or not to hire me.
Requiring a signed contract and retainer protects both of us, secures your date on my calendar, and ensures we’re committed to working together before any included services are provided.
I truly appreciate every inquiry I receive, but my policies are in place for a reason and apply to everyone equally. Whether you’re a new client, a friend, or family, I ask for the same respect and understanding of my pricing, policies, and the work that goes into running my business. Supporting a small business also means respecting the boundaries and procedures that keep it running.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support me, trust me with your memories, and respect the way I operate my business. ❤️
