"Never Alone!"

The past month has presented overwhelming challenges; physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Being Raw and Truthful: I realized I have walls still erected that I thought I had torn down, wrong and prideful attitudes I thought I dealt with, bucking up and pushing through without accepting help, and that "I am not all of that!" Tough lessons on top of physical health challenges that I have not a clue the answers of how to get through except walking day by day. Yesterday, I was ready to hang up everything and walk away from ministry and move west where my heart always wants to be. However, your problems follow you, because you carry them. Then God Creator in all His majesty showed up and reminded me whose I am, that He forgives me, and loves me. He reminded me I am not alone, He is with me with every breath I take. And He reminded me what overwhelming joy I have when I am taking photographs. Instead of fleeing, with a repented heart I do the hard work of yielding and reflecting Jesus more in all my thoughts, words and actions. AND take more photos!

I hope this encourages someone out there going through trials, storms and hard times. You are not alone. God will show up for you with help and answers and shower you with His liquid love that overflows and heals all hurts. You just need a reminder like I did. Have a blessed weekend!

An important part of being an artist is visualization. Trying to make the images in your mind happen in real life. Sometimes you can and sometimes you cant pull it off. This image I have been trying to capture for five years. I always miss it either there is no horse present or I have waited to long and the birch trees already shed their leaves. However, I kept trying and on Sunday, I brought my 200mm lens along and just happened to be toting it in the basket on my knee scooter and waited for my horse to get in just the right spot. I called to her and she looked back at me - I snapped 3shots and bang she darted off with her tail up - moment evaporated. BUT - I caught the image that I had envisioned so many years before. The donkey was a plus. I contemplated taking out the fences and still might. I am elated with it just how it is for the time being. Be persistent and be ready to capture a moment whether on camera or in your mind.

Dove makes way better tasting chocolate than it does soap … just saying. Might be remembering when saying a naughty word when I was younger and remembering how soap tastes.

A Grand Desplay: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. Psalms 19:1-2

Tonight, was one of the most beautiful displays of the aurora borealis that I have ever witnessed. There was a corona that stayed present at the top of the sky for several hours and auroras spanned from east to west. These are some of my favorite images from the evening. I listened to a weird coyote bark a yodel that made my hair stand on end. So I tunned into Brandon Lake's worship song "Gratitude" which was perfect for the evening. I thought of Kirk and my friend Andy, both of whom have passed. I thought of Dr. Cameron and healing for his body ravaged from cancer. I thought of the dementia patient that laid his head on my shoulder and held my hand as he sobbed as I was praying for him. And I thought of moments in time that are so spectacular like when someone touches our lives and we are forever changed. Value those moments - they do not come around again.

When you wake up at 12:45am and see that the Northern Lights are out... one must make the decision: "How committed to photography and working at my craft am I?" If you truly are passionate about sharing all of God's handiwork, then you will get ready, gather camera gear and walk out the door into the cold in the middle of the night with anticipation and of course your best buddy - the dog. Then God does the rest. I didn't see the best of the auroras last evening because I was still asleep, but I showed up and came away with a beautiful image.
That is how it is with faith as well...you show up expecting and believing. God always follows through and does the rest. “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him” (Psalm 28:7, NIV)

Hoodoo dreams. One of the things I wanted to concentrate on this summer is night photography. Where better to do that than Theodore Roosevelt National Park? I tried two nights taking milky photos with the core coming of the galaxy appearing about 11:45pm. One night at Peaceful Valley Ranch and another at my favorite tree, which didn't work out very well (not enough separation between tree and sky and buttes in the way). On the way back to the campground, while driving around in the dark I encountered a porcupine that was sitting in the middle of the road holding some food source, I thought it was an alien animal and it gave me a fright, that and all the coyotes howling. I had to think of a safe place where there weren't any porcupines or coyotes that the milky way in the south sky would be visible. I stopped at the pull out at Wind Canyon with all the hoodoos. And guess what? Everything aligned just perfect. Thank you God for letting it work out. I think this is one of my favorite images I have created. Simply beautiful. For those who want to know what exactly is a hoodoo? A hoodoo is tall stone pillar made up of soft rock that easily erodes topped by a harder rock which protects the rock below it making weird shapes in the form of pillars, spires and chimneys. BONUS: shooting star 🌠 to make a wish upon 💙
