Wikipedia tells us that Jerico Springs is a village in Cedar County, Missouri, United States. The population was 160 at the 2020 census. Jerico Springs was platted in 1882. Its name is derived from both the ancient city of Jericho and that of Joseph B. Carrico, the owner of the town site.
This traditionally painted little red barn graces the side of a Jerico backroad. It’s seen better days, but it comes with a small mystery as well. What do you suppose the pipe is which extends from the left side of the barn, and ends in mid-air; some kind of drain? Also interesting to see actual shingles on the roof.

Wikipedia tells us that Jasper is a city in Jasper County, Missouri, United States. The population within the city limits was 931 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jasper has been known as C**n Creek settlement, and as Midway (a name that at times included the Dublin community just across the Barton County line) for its position between county seats Carthage and Lamar, but in the late 19th century it was renamed Jasper to reuse the postal equipment of a previous Jasper that existed southeast of Carthage. Jasper was the home to Debra Dene Barnes Miles the year after she finished her reign as Miss America (from 'Miss Kansas' title) in 1968.

This set of barns along a Jasper backroad evoked the thought: “Out with the old, in with the new!” But the truth is, I like the character represented by the older barns best.
