Happy ! We're excited to share that our short documentary, Freezing the Future for Wolves, is now an Official Selection of the 2026 Nature Without Borders Film Festival in the Biodiversity and Genetics category!

The Lobo (aka the Mexican Wolf) was once nearly extinct– down to 7 left in the world. Humans caused it, but humans also stepped in to save them. Fast forward to now and they're still critically endangered, but have been reintroduced to their native ranged to help restore balance to the southwestern US and Mexican ecosystems where they belong. Lobo Week celebrates their return on this day in 1998.

About the Film:
Freezing the Future for Wolves follows five women who have dedicated their lives to saving endangered wolves, collaborating to accomplish the monumental task of preventing extinction. I am deeply grateful to the Endangered Wolf Center, Saint Louis Zoo, and the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute for trusting me to take viewers behind the curtain and under the microscope to see real conservation in action.

Currently the film is not available on any streaming platforms, but stay tuned for more info on how you can watch it soon!

Loved filming these rehabilitated birds take to the sky and get a second chance thanks to the World Bird Sanctuary!

If you’re able to support their work in the raptor hospital, they do incredible work there.

🎼 Sound on for another lovely original score by Michael Ziglar!

Had a lovely time at the gala last night with many feathered friends!

Unfortunately, our short film, “Healing the Hurt,” couldn’t play due to some power issues at the venue, but hopefully it will be available to view soon.

A candle-lit evening with the birds was memorable, nevertheless! 🦅

🦅 Remembering Murphy 🦅
We are so sad to hear of Murphy's passing last week during the storms. His story, which went viral in 2023, wasn't just a sweet story that people loved hearing. It was also an important step in conservation for bald eagles.

By recognizing Murphy's paternal instincts when he started incubating a rock and providing him with a foster eaglet, the WBS was able to release the orphaned eaglet back into the wild.

It's because of hard work like this that bald eagle numbers have rebounded since the 60s, when they had extremely low numbers. But bald eagles still face challenges due to lead poisoning from bullets, pesticides, and habitat loss.

We were so grateful for the opportunity to help share Murphy's incredible story. WBS is working to build more aviaries and a space for fostering birds, which they've stated will be called "Murphy's Manor" in his honor!

If you'd like to make a donation to support this project to help injured or orphaned birds like Murphy's eaglet, here's the WBS link to give:

Happy first day of fall!

Here are some of the fall colors we saw while visiting Abruzzo, Italy and spending the day with Apennine wolves.

About 2.5 hours away in Rome, we visited the Capitoline wolf sculpture and saw countless pieces of artwork depicting the nursing wolf and Romulus and Remus. It was fascinating that despite this mythology of Rome’s origin, their wolves were still persecuted.

Hoping bald eagle patient #24-390 pulls through. Michael and I were glad to help share this story with the World Bird Sanctuary and we hope it prevents this from happening to any other creatures.

A bald eagle is slowly recovering after surgeries in Missouri, the victim of a shooting that experts say is far too common for America's national bird and other raptors.

Three beautiful creatures, three beautiful moments spent in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

When people talk about gratitude, I often remember the moments I photograph animals and the often brief encounters I have with them.

This red deer was actually one of the smaller bucks we saw and the photo was captured from the car. It was not with the rest of the herd.

The fox was spotted on a walk. And it was oh-so-majestically dragging a bag of garbage from a campsite. It was obviously way too habituated to humans, and walked right up to me.

I assumed my photos would be terrible of it, because it was quite dark, but I was able to brighten it up enough to see myself standing in her eye’s reflection.

So there’s my gratitude for the day!

An incredible conservation story and an incredible group of people! Always grateful to be a tiny piece of the puzzle of helping endangered animals like the Mexican wolf. 🐺
