Sometimes you have to take a step back to be able to see the whole picture.
Bison Gaze is one of my favorite portrait photos. People will initially look at it and not be able to figure out what it is until they take a step back to look. Then it comes into focus. There’s something I really love about that.
It will be available this Sunday (along with many others) at the handMADE Montana Summer Made Fair in Missoula. Come on out to Caras Park and see all of the amazing artists and vendors that will be there!! And it’ll be a great chance to get that last minute Father’s Day gift.

I finally got to check Pine Martens off my list on my Yellowstone trip!! If you’ve been to the Canyon area, especially on a snowcoach, you’ve probably “checked the price of gas”. Well after 3 years of checking, we finally had a sighting on two different days. Even though they were only ever on the dumpster, I was so excited to see and photograph them. Didn’t think we’d have a better sighting, but we were in for a big surprise. On my last full day in the park, I was driving the northern range with and . Hawk-eyed Julie spotted this little guy in a tree on the other side of the road while she was driving! We had a few minutes with him and watched as he moved along a branch and then climbed down into the snow. I had so many great wildlife encounters on this trip, but this was my absolute favorite!!

Just a “few” of my favorites from my January Yellowstone trip. Winter is such a wonderful time in the park and I was lucky to spend 4 days on a snowcoach with a group of amazing and talented women. If you’ve never been in the winter and you’ve been debating whether or not you should go- Do It!!

It’s SUPERB OWL Sunday!!
This is one of my all time favorite owl photos and my first Great Grey sighting. If it hadn’t swooped down in front of my car and landed in the tree beside us, I probably wouldn’t have seen it because it blended in so nicely.
