The Good Old Days?

Yours truly in the old darkroom at the Stockton Record about 1980 or so. The photograph I’m holding is of a youngster competing in the annual Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee and had recently won an award in the California Newspaper Publishers Association competition. My colleague and friend, the late Dave Evans, made this picture of me to accompany an article about this and other awards the newsroom staff had recently won. I sure don't miss the aroma of acetic acid in that stuffy darkroom. A few years later the newsroom and photo department were relocated to the other side of the building and the working conditions were vastly improved, although still far from the digital world we are all now familiar with.
