The final generation of monarchs for the year. The ones that are lucky enough to make it to a butterfly will be heading to Mexico. The caterpillar in the last photo has been "infected?" with parasitic fly eggs, and sadly won't be making the journey south.

On our weekly morning cruise this morning we came up on this hawk that just kept "balancing" on this wire. We weren't exactly sure what was going on with it. Then right after the last picture posted, a large pellet dropped out of it's mouth. Unfortunately I was changing the settings on my camera when it happened 🙄.. I was today years old when I learned that hawks regurgitate castings like owls.

The goldfinch are living their best lives these days! I just learned that they wait to raise their young until late in summer to coincide with the abundance of plant seeds.
