Photographing the guy who literally wrote the book on professional headshots? No pressure. 😅

This was hands down the most stressful session I’ve ever prepared for — not because I doubted my skill, but because the subject was Peter Hurley himself. The master. At his own 3-day Headshot Intensive in Boston.

Then the camera came up, and everything else fell away. Muscle memory took over — like riding a bike I’ve ridden a thousand times. The nerves turned into flow, and somewhere in there I’m pretty sure I heard, “Holy sh*t — that’s a great shot of me.”

I’ll take it.

Thank you, Peter, for the education, the guidance, and the genuine awesomeness these past few days. This craft rewards the ones who never stop learning. Complacency is a weakness. Perfection is the goal I’ll never reach — and I’ll chase it anyway. Now with a few more incredible professionals in my corner.

What really went on this week?

As an educator and CT Headshot Photographer, continuous learning is part of my life. Adapting and improving is the goal.

Three days at Peter Hurley’s Headshot Intensive, and this is what happens when the right energy walks into the room.

Some of these faces belong to seasoned professionals. Others had never stood in front of a camera like this in their lives. Scroll through and try to tell me which is which — you can’t. That’s the point.

When someone feels seen, directed, and genuinely comfortable, confidence shows up in the eyes before it shows up anywhere else. The jawlines, the stillness, the quiet intensity — that’s not experience. That’s connection.

Grateful to every one of these models for trusting the process and bringing it, frame after frame. And to Peter and the crew — iron sharpens iron.

Ten minutes moves fast.

So here's the secret the parents who book twice already know: bring five poses, rehearsed.

Not five ideas. Five shapes you can hit cold, on the first count, wet, in front of a stranger holding a camera. A split leap. A scorpion. A held arabesque. Something you've done a thousand times in a mirror.

Water rewards clarity. Big lines, clean shapes, full extension. Mush doesn't photograph.

Rehearse them this week. Book the session before they're gone.
