Why I became a photographer
When I was a teenager, my dad bought a VHS video camera. Maybe some of you remember them and others may think, what is that? Well, it was a big video camera that sat on your shoulders as you record family videos. I was the lucky candidate in the family to have control over recording many family events. You'd think I would be interested in filmography, but no. This was a time in my life I started to fall in love with photography.
After a short lived family recorder, I asked for a point and shoot camera. My dad was so nice that he bought me a pink one. I remember using that camera for the first time when we went to the Painted Desert in Arizona. I wouldn't say I was Ansel Adams that trip, but I was pretty excited with my results after I developed the film.
Once I reached high school, I took my first ever photography class. I learned how to work with a Canon manual camera; how to load film properly; develop film; and how to work in a dark room. I never wanted to leave my classroom. I was soaking in everything I was learning as quickly as possible. I was in heaven!
By my high school graduation, my parents truly recognized my love for photography and bought me my first 35mm Canon camera. I was in love with that grey and black contraption. It was such a beautiful camera. We went on some great adventures together until a sticky finger thief stole it from me in the Paris airport three years later, but that's a story for another time.
My photography has always been about telling a story. I hope you will join me as I tell my story of becoming a photographer and all my lessons learned throughout the years. So, come on! Let's begin by taking one click together.
