With fall upon us, I thought I’d share a few ideas for those planning outfits for their upcoming family sessions! When clients ask me what they should wear, I always recommend thinking about light, neutral colors with just a few darker tones that complement each other and your surroundings without blending in too much.

You’ll often hear me mention colors like creams, soft browns, navy blues, and other neutral tones. Since we live in an area known as the “Black Hills,” there can be a lot of darker tones in the natural surroundings. If everyone wears dark colors, you can sometimes blend into the background rather than stand out. Choosing lighter, neutral colors can help create beautiful contrast and allow your family to really pop against the scenery while still keeping everything looking natural and timeless.
