I thought I'd share something a little different today.
A picture I didn't take... but one my fiancé did.
I wanted to share it because of the way this photo resonated with me.
The other day, he was showing me a video he had taken of our son playing. He doesn't take many pictures, so when he swiped to the next photo, I realized they were all from the Fourth of July. I hadn't seen them yet, so I was excited to experience that day from his perspective.
Then I stumbled across this one.
Funny enough, I didn't even know it existed.
While I was busy photographing my kids, he was quietly photographing me.
And it made me realize something.
As moms, we spend so much of our lives creating the magic of childhood. ✨
We're planning the traditions, soaking in the little moments, cheering from the sidelines, making sure everyone is having fun, and making sure the memories are preserved. We're behind the camera, behind the phone, behind every, "Everybody smile!" and "Hang on, let me get a picture!"
We become the keepers of our family's memories.
But somewhere along the way, we forget that while we're preserving their childhood... we're often missing from it.
Not in real life, of course.
But in the photographs they'll one day hold in their hands.
Our children deserve more than pictures of birthday parties, vacations, and holidays.
They deserve to see the mom who was right there beside them.
The one who laughed with them.
The one who knelt down to see the world from their height.
The one who held their hand, wiped their tears, celebrated their victories, and made childhood feel safe, joyful, and full of love.
That's one of the biggest reasons I do what I do.
Family photography isn't just about creating beautiful images.
It's about preserving your place in your family's story.
Of course your children will remember their childhood.
But memories fade in the little details. Photographs have a beautiful way of bringing them back.
Years from now, your children won't just look at these images to remember what life looked like. They'll look at them to remember how it felt.
They'll point to you and tell stories.
They'll laugh about the traditions, the adventures, and the ordinary days that became their favorite memories.
And if they're lucky, one day they'll share those same photographs with their own children and say,
"Look at grandma. She made my childhood unforgettable."
