Have you been to SummerStage of Delafield yet this summer? If not, you have one more chance to check out this hidden gem in Lapham Peak Unit, Kettle Moraine State Forest. Doors Open! is a sweet story, set in Door County, which opens TONIGHT and runs for the next 3 weekends.

Last night was the perfect night for photographing (or watching!) an outdoor musical theater performance...clear skies and cooler, even needing a light sweatshirt as the evening progressed. You still need your bug spray, but that, and a picnic dinner and your favorite beverage would make for a lovely date night, or even family time out. If you like unique musical instruments, make sure to stop by "the pit" and see some of the interesting instruments the live musicians are playing in this show!

Senior season is in full gear! I had a chance to photograph the sweet and elegant Isabelle, on a day that could not decide what kind of weather to give us. We had spotted rain showers during the day with the forecast showing a clear evening right at her session time. Well, one last pop=up shower stopped AS she pulled into the parking lot, and then some sun came out and we had dreamy light until sunset. The bonus was that the heat and earlier rain meant we practically had the place to ourselves!

I've watched Isabelle grow as an actor, singer, dancer, artist and person over the last few years and it's hard to believe that she is a senior! Her outfit, location and prop choices perfectly portrayed her classic and elegant personality! Some of these shots feel like they are right out of a fairy tale! I have no doubt that a lovely and bright future is in store for this lovely lady!

Hard to believe I am taking this young lady's COLLEGE senior photos! Ellie Boehm will be graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran College in the spring with a double major in English and Theater. She has had an incredible college experience, both academically, socially and theatrically! You can even see her on stage this weekend in a 9/11 Tribute show at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Theatre Department. We are looking forward to a great year and can't wait to see what God has in store next!

Evan wanted his senior photos to include one of his passions...mountain biking. Of course I was all in because I want a senior's photos to uniquely show who they are right now! Plus, I'm always up for trying something new! Then he showed up at the park with his grandpa's truck...are you kidding me?!? His mom said "I hope you have as much fun as he is having." and I replied "I hope HE has as much fun as I am having!!"

One of my favorite things about senior sessions is getting to walk and talk with these incredible kids and getting to hear their dreams, their plans, and sometimes even their fears. I am so blessed, and so honored to be asked to share this experience. I can't wait to see what this year holds for Evan, andI know he's got a very bright future!

Summer is a fun time for a photographer, but yesterday was a little extra special. We had a Balloon Glow right in Waukesha, so of course I had to go! It was a free event, fairly easy to get to, and so the crowds were large. Despite the large crowds, I was able to get some great vantage points for some great shots!

I have a few comments on future improvements (ahem...more bathrooms!), but the biggest is that it would have been great for them to coordinate one full glow. I waited patiently for that and it never came. The most I caught at once was 3. But, still a fun evening, at least for many photographers who were there!

Last week was a crazy week of photography...4 shoots in 3 days! I'm still editing my way through but I completed another theater gallery this morning. SummerStage of Delafield is currently presenting Becky's New Car, running now through September 5. This particular night was a little extra exciting, with a tornado warning that hit the moment I pulled into a parking spot at Lapham Peak State Park. So I opted to shelter in place in the hallway of a mostly glass building, over my car or the green room of the stage (sometimes choices are not ideal!). Thankfully, after 45 min, the sky mostly cleared and eventually gave us a SPECTACULAR sunset, which I couldn't help but capture during the run!

Get your tickets to the show for 2 more weekends. It's a show about choices we make, sometimes good and sometimes not, and the challenges we create in doing so. Probably not a show I'd take a kiddo to, but well done for adults. https://summerstageofdelafield.org/

It's been a busy week! Here are a few photos of Becky's New Car, currently running at SummerStage of Delafield, which I took on Tuesday night...you know, the night we had another tornado warning. This one specifically mentioned "Lapham Peak State Park", where I had just exited my car with all my equipment. 🫣 Thankfully, I hung out in the Lapham Lodge hallway for 45 min with a very nice lady, no tornado formed near us, and I was then able to head down and get photos just a little late. But then God gave us a GORGEOUS sunset to add to a few of the shots, so that was fun!

If you go, do yourself a favor: bring a fun meal, chairs and bug spray. You'll thank me for that tip!

SNEAK PEEK! What do you do when you get asked to take the senior photos of THREE amazing theater women...in the theater?? Um...you say YES, pack a lot of gear, and then have a blast!

I got to spend a good chunk of with these 3 beautiful women. I had never met 2 of them, but immediately you could see their personalities come to life. Even in the same space, with the same lighting, you can see how their photos are uniquely their own. This day was filled with fun, laughter, good friends, good music, and excitement for this final year of high school. Can you guess what show they are in next? I can't wait to be in the audience!

My last senior spotlight for the 2026 seniors, before I jump into my first week of photographing the 2027 seniors...

Lucas has been in front of my camera for quite a few things...theater, rock climbing, dance and more! He has presented me with some amazing chances to up my skills for capturing fast action...he is always flipping, jumping and climbing...often when I am not expecting it! When his feet are firmly planted on the ground, he is one of the most gentle and kind guys you will ever meet! My goal at his session was to capture him in his true state, AND to get a real smile. I feel like I succeeded in both!

I have no doubt I will see you again on another stage, on another climbing wall, or one of the many other places you excel! Can't wait to see what this next chapter holds for you!!
