Over the weekend, I had the chance to photograph Maddie for her senior portraits, and it was such a fun session! For starters, her older brother joined in, allowing me to get some great sibling shots to kick things off. Secondly, Maddie was a complete natural in front of the camera, and her best friend, who came along, made sure that hair and wardrobe were on point in every shot. I love shoots like this. 🙂

✨ Sunday Inspiration: B&W Boats at Green Lakes State Park

We’re staying at Green Lakes State Park this week. Minutes after last week’s shot, I got in close to capture this image of the boats up close. There’s an art to removing as much as possible from an image, and zooming in is one of the easiest ways to accomplish that. The aluminum boats lent themselves really well to a black-and-white rendering, which allowed me to remove one additional element: color.

Green Lakes State Park is excellent for both landscapes and portraits. While it’s great all year, the fall colors are really something special (as you’ll see in future Sunday posts 🙂).

🎵 Portraits with a soundtrack!

This week’s featured portrait of Jason comes from a set of photos I did for local musicians earlier this year. Jason showed up with a bouzouki, an instrument with the same tuning as a mandolin and a beautiful sound. He played while we wandered among the trees and brick sidewalks, and it created a set of images that felt authentic, relaxed, and full of personality: exactly what I aim for in every session.
