Getting a toddler to cooperate during family portraits is not about finding the perfectly behaved child. It is about finding the right timing, the right approach, and a photographer who knows how to work with the beautiful chaos of real family life.

After 20 years of working with families, here is what I know: schedule your session before dinner, not during naptime. Keep it short and fun. Let kids be kids - some of my favorite family images are the ones where someone is mid-giggle or running toward the camera.

The magic is not in the perfect pose. It is in the real moment.

Here is something I tell every expecting mama who reaches out: the best newborn sessions start during pregnancy. Not because you need to have everything figured out. But because when we have time to plan together - wardrobe, style, timing - the session itself is so much more relaxed.

You are somewhere in your third trimester, scrolling through newborn photos at midnight, wondering what it is actually going to feel like. You are excited. You are nervous. You are wondering if your baby will sleep, if you will look exhausted, if you will know what to do.

I want to tell you something: every single mama who walks through my door feels exactly the way you feel right now. And every single one of them leaves saying they wish they had not worried so much. 🚨If you have a fall due date and you have not reached out to a newborn photographer yet, I want you to read this.

Every year, I have mamas contact me in September and October - excited, exhausted, brand new babies in arms - asking if I have availability. And every year, my fall calendar is already full.

Newborn sessions need to happen in the first 7-14 days. That window is short. So if your baby is coming in September, October, or November, your session date is already approaching faster than you think.

Book during your pregnancy so that when your baby arrives, this is already handled. You have enough to think about in those first days. Let me take this one off your list! Link in bio to reach me.
