So, the funniest part about the India wedding was that we didn't even see the actual wedding ceremony. The auspicious time for the wedding was at 3:30am and the ceremony started at 12:30am. We badly needed some sleep before getting picked up at 6am for a safari!
Very close to the wedding site is the , known for it's population of tigers. We got picked up first in this jeep/pinzqauer/open-top thing, grabbed the front row seats and made our way into the park. Occasionally, the driver would hop out with a tire iron to torque the wheels 😂.
When I pulled out my nice camera, the tour guide asked how many safaris we were signed up for and we said just this one. Turns out, most photographers take multiple safaris in hopes of seeing A tiger. Well, let's just say that our Nemec travel luck was strong that day.
Within 15 minutes of entering the park we got our first glimpse of a tiger off in the distance. We were stoked and happy that we got to see one. And then things went super magical.
We sat in one place with a bunch of other vehicles waiting and then it was on. There was word of a tiger sighting, so our fearless (seriously fearless) driver hammered the pedal and we came to a screeching stop. "Amanda, tiger!" "Where!?" "Right here!"
A tiger was walking down the road, not a care in the world, about 15 feet from us. We drove along side it for a good 10 minutes until she disappeared into the jungle.
We were hanging out, waiting for something else to happen when they got word again of another sighting. We rushed over just in time to a tiger coming out of the brush. She came into the road, right in front of us looked back, growled a little and then laid down right in the road. She was letting her pups know that it was ok that all these vehicles were around and to not be shy. The tour guide said this was only the second time he had seen the pups in 5 months!
It was one of the most incredible experiences we've ever had. Amanda Taussig Nemec and I both got a little emotional because it was just so unreal and so beautiful.
More safari pics coming!
