I got the call and made it to the birth center less than 25 minutes later, but baby had arrived just five minutes before I walked through the door. The doula arrived right as baby was being born, and when I stepped into the room, I found the sweetest scene waiting for me: mama holding her brand new baby, dad absolutely beaming beside them, and a deep sense of peace filling the room.
This mama had done so much work throughout pregnancy. Through hypnobirthing, support from her doula, and intentionally working through fears, she prepared both her mind and body for birth. And it showed.
As a first-time mom, she went from 2 cm to complete in less than an hour. Baby arrived so quickly that she didn’t even have to push. It was powerful, strong, and primal, yet somehow peaceful and joyful all at the same time.
One of my favorite moments was watching this new family simply be together. Not long after, both grandmas arrived and wrapped them in so much love. Watching multiple generations gathered around this brand new life was such a gift.
What I loved most was that no one rushed them. They were given space to soak in those first moments, to stare at their baby, to rest, and to fully take in the miracle they had been waiting for.
Birth is hard work. Birth is powerful. And sometimes birth is unbelievably peaceful too.
I’ll never stop being in awe that God invites me into sacred spaces like this one. ✨
