Every art fair begins long before the first visitor walks through the gates.

Today is all about the final preparations. Making sure each photograph is framed, carefully wrapped, and ready for the journey.

Tomorrow, Christina and I will head to Greeley to set up for the Greeley Arts Picnic, and on Saturday these pieces will be ready to meet the people they're meant to connect with.

It's one of my favorite parts of the process. Months of planning, photographing, printing, and framing all come together for one weekend.

Beauty doesn't always arrive at the beginning of the story.

Sometimes it appears near the end.

These autumn leaves had already fallen, their season nearly complete. Resting on a weathered log, they caught my attention not because they were perfect, but because they reminded me that nature never stops creating beauty, even in the midst of change.

It's easy to admire the first signs of spring or the brilliant colors of autumn from a distance. But slowing down enough to notice the quiet details often reveals a different kind of beauty, one that's easy to overlook.

Photography has taught me that some of the most meaningful moments aren't found in grand landscapes. They're found in the small reminders that every season has something worth noticing.

Some places don't fade away when they're forgotten.

They simply become part of the landscape.

Standing before this weathered cabin, surrounded by brilliant autumn aspens, I was struck by the contrast. One season was bursting with life while another chapter quietly slipped into history.

Time has a way of changing everything. Wood weathers. Roofs begin to sag. Nature slowly reclaims what was once carefully built.
Yet there's a quiet beauty in that transformation.

This photograph reminds me that not everything has to remain untouched to remain beautiful. Sometimes the marks left by time become part of the story, adding character, depth, and meaning that could never exist otherwise.

As photographers, we often chase perfect light and dramatic landscapes. But every once in a while, it's the forgotten places that leave the deepest impression.

People sometimes ask why I still get up before sunrise, drive hundreds of miles, and wait patiently for light that may never arrive.

It's a fair question.

After all these years, I realized the answer has very little to do with photography itself.

It's about slowing down, staying curious, sharing adventures with Christina, and discovering places that continue to surprise me. Most of all, it's about the connections that happen when a photograph becomes part of someone else's story.

This week I wrote one of my most personal blog posts yet, reflecting on why photography continues to call me after all these years.

Fortress Echoes
Some places don't need people to tell their story. They carry the evidence of those who came before us.

The worn grooves in the floor reveal where heavy cannons were once moved into position. The weathered brick walls have stood through conflict, storms, and changing generations. Even the empty bench seems to invite visitors to pause and imagine the lives that once filled these spaces.

When I converted this photograph to black and white, the distractions seemed to disappear, leaving only the textures, light, and history behind.

Photography has a way of preserving more than a scene. Sometimes it preserves a feeling, a question, or a connection to those who walked these paths long before us.

Standing inside Fort Pulaski, I couldn't help but wonder how many stories these walls could tell if they could speak.

Edinburgh Castle deserves every bit of its reputation. But as my eyes wandered beyond its ancient walls, I found myself just as captivated by the rooftops, historic buildings, and quiet details that make this city unforgettable.

Sometimes the most unforgettable moments are the quietest ones.

This sunset didn't arrive with dramatic clouds or brilliant bursts of color. Instead, it unfolded gently, layer by layer, as warm light settled across the mountains and the sky became a beautiful symphony of gold, orange, and blue.

Standing there, I was reminded that nature doesn't always ask for our attention. Often, it simply waits for us to slow down long enough to notice.

That's one of the reasons I keep returning to places like this. Every visit is different, and every sunset has its own story to tell.

Tucked away in Edinburgh, Lauriston Castle offers a peaceful escape surrounded by beautiful gardens and historic architecture.

It's places like this that remind me photography isn't always about the biggest landmarks. Sometimes the quiet corners leave the strongest memories.

I've been a little quiet over the past few days, and for good reason.

Christina and I had the joy of celebrating our daughter's wedding, surrounded by family, laughter, and memories we'll treasure for years to come. It was one of those weekends where the camera wasn't the priority. Being present was.

And yes...we even made a new furry friend. I couldn't resist sharing this moment with this adorable mini Highland cow.

Thank you for sticking with me while I took a little time away.

I'm back home, grateful, refreshed, and looking forward to getting back behind the camera to share more of the landscapes and stories that inspire me.
