A rose, is a rose, is a rose, but a peony, now that is not a rose! A peony, with its layers upon layers of petals, suggests to me, that some things can be more complex than they first appear. From just a simple bud to wild unbridled beauty the peony unveils its natural complexity every June. I can hardly wait. As always photos available for purchase.

Another day..another garden. Our very own little oasis called the Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park in Traverse City. This waterfall is in the children’s sensory garden. Today I bring you to the Harper’s Ridge Farm barn right here on Old Mission Peninsula. A working farm, Harper’s Ridge is home to the Little Long Ears Provisions brand. Their items such as black garlic vinegar can be ordered online or picked up at Local Yokels, Oryana and other sources in the area. Interesting note the farm once belonged to my gf’s family when I was in high school. Glad to see it still operating today. Can you just smell the lilacs?

Funny how life has ups and downs. Yesterday was all upward and onward. Where to start…I captured beautiful cherry & apple blossom vistas, a magnificent forest of trilliums, sand hill cranes who actually cooperated with me, fog extraordinaire, baby geese in fog, seagulls, only to come home around sunset to rest but ultimately be startled by the appearance of this big beautiful bird at my beach! It’s a white pelican folks. Yes we now have pelicans….not just for Florida anymore! Due to warming climate they’ve expanded their migratory territory and can be seen April thru October. They have an incredible nine foot wing span. Happy Tuesday! Photo number one resting bird, number two shows his incredible wings.
