Field Note: Estancia Mercedes II

“Mornings started slowly, settling into the pace of the estancia before heading out to ride through the surrounding landscape, often with a goal or purpose in mind. There was an ease to everything—the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel completely removed from everyday life.

What I appreciated most was how unhurried it all felt. Quiet moments between conversations and long hours spent outdoors created the sense that the experience was shaped around the horses and the land rather than a fixed itinerary.

The estancia itself added so much to that feeling. Cozy rooms, fireplaces lit each evening, and quiet places to sit with a book after riding made it feel like being welcomed into someone’s home.”

Some places feel made for riding.

Estancia Mercedes is one of them — where the landscape shifts from open bays and pebble beaches to centuries old forests and snow capped mountains. Days are shaped by the estancia: riding out in search of wild cattle, herding and shearing sheep, or simply lounging by the fire with a good book.

It’s the kind of place where you slow down. Days feel rewarding and nights are restorative.

Some places feel designed for riding.

Estancia Mercedes is one of them — where the landscape shifts constantly between pebble beaches, forests, open bogs, and snow-capped mountains. Days in the saddle are shaped by the rhythm of estancia life, as it has been for generations. Ride in search of wild cattle, help herd and shear sheep, and stop for long lunches in hidden glades.

It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down without realizing it.

lazy mornings give you time to doze or visit the horses before a ride into Lago Puelo National Park, exploring mountain miradors, lakes, and forests — take a picnic lunch along or amble back to the house for a home cooked (and usually homegrown!) meal, then kick back with a good book for an evening of relaxation
