BEHIND EVERY FLAG IS A STORY FOR 250 YEARS
Some pieces of art begin with an idea. This one began with gratitude.
I took a photograph of our American flag and carefully used pieces of it to create the eagle you see here. As each feather took shape, I couldn't help but think of the stories of courage, sacrifice, loss, and unwavering love of our country. I photographed (at Wallowa Lake, Oregon) fireworks painted in the darkness of brilliant colors. My thoughts drifted beyond the celebration to the men and women who made such moments possible.
Their reactions remind me that behind every flag is a family. Behind every freedom is a sacrifice. Behind every folded flag is a story that deserves to be honored. What is your story? Please share if you'd like to.
Today, as I look at this eagle resting against the fireworks, I just don't see red, white, and blue. I see courage, I see hope.
Most of all, I see a nation blessed be those willing to give so much for others. More than once, veterans have shared emotional reactions to this piece, which humbles me every time. Tears also leak from my eyes. If you'd like to display this tribute in your home or as a gift to a veteran, You can message me for sizes and pricing. I will give you my Etsy website and until July 4th, I'm offering 30% off on prints, canvases, metal or acrylic mediums. Most of all, I'd love to hear about a veteran or service member who has fought for our freedom. Feel free to share their name in the comments so we can honor them together.
