The following is a good example of the importance of putting photographs out into the world. Who would have known 40 years ago that I would be able to share this photo so that anyone on the planet could possibly find it. And that someone might know who the person in the photo was. Until now, this photo has lived in a box, tucked away, unseen for decades. Now, it has a life, and a connection has been made. I think things like this are very cool indeed.
I received an email the other day about the post below...
Hi, I saw Nova Scotia trending on twitter this morning so I looked at the tweets since I live here. I happened to see your tweet and clicked on it out of curiosity. As it turns out I am almost positive that photo you took is of a gentleman by the name of Bob Snow that used to live about 5 miles from where I live and have lived for almost 50 years.
It's a place called Barrington on the southern tip of NS. Bob lived in a small shack so close to the road you could almost hit the house if you stuck your hand out the car window (notice the power lines in the foreground). The ocean was in his backyard and I see the hint of water between the pile of wood and the house AND he played the concertina.
He and his house have been gone for around 25 years now but I'm going to show this photo to some more people and get further confirmation anyway. Awesome picture and brought back some memories.
Kind regards,
John Ross
In 1980 I took my first long motorcycle trip from NJ to Nova Scotia with my then girlfriend Mary. Despite days of discomfort camping, and riding in the cold rain we saw some interesting things and people. Like this guy just wailing away on his concertina on a lonely road south of Digby. #1980
