Took a leave of absence from posting for about a month while attending to family matters. Took these last week at the Ft. Worth Stockyards. I've always wanted to see the longhorn "parade". Every day, unless weather is not permitting, about 17-18 longhorns of various colors and horn shapes are herded by cowboys through the streets in Ft. Worth. Worth the trip if you have never been. The best place, I think, to take pictures is across the street from the parking lot for the colussium on the little cut out next to the P sign. Unobstructed view of the herd coming towards you as well as the Stockyard signage. Sure was hot! Not many tourists that day.

Bird behavior is very interesting. At times, they remind me of human beings - they fight, they make up, they feed their young, etc. This cardinal has been bald for about 3 months. He seems healthy, eats at the feeder well. BUT, no sign of returning hair on his head. I'm pretty sure he is the only bald cardinal hanging around my feeders, but I can't be sure. Anyway, he took exception with another bird over some of the food and I guess this is a version of bird dueling! Nobody died, but it was pretty dramatic. The Inca doves mate for life, forming very strong attachments to each other. We can learn alot from our birdy friends.

It's butterflies and dragonflies for me today! As long as there are blooms, they are in my area. This is a Widow Skimmer dragonfly, a Checkered Skipper butterfly, Large Orange Sulphur butterfly on a zinnia and a Phaon Crescent butterfly (I think, at least according to Mr. Google!} on the small white blossom.

West Texas never disappoints when it comes to beautiful , rugged landscapes. These were taken near the Cibilo Creek Resort several years ago while attending a workshop headed by Wyman Meinzer. He is known as the State Photographer for state of Texas. If you are not familiar with his work, you should be if you are a Texas photographer. Look up his website and take a look.

I saw a post on Facebook recently that really captured my interest - Bluebell wildflowers! They were kind enough to post some directions to the site and so I took a field trip to the location. Apparently, Bluebells were very prevalent in earlier times until people started cutting them to use in floral arrangements. Since they could no longer reseed naturally, their numbers in the wild were almost eliminated. If you do go to this area, please resist the temptation to cut any flowers so this area will be available for future enjoyment. Go to Brenham, Tx, take FM 389 west and you will see this small stand of beautiful blue almost purple flowers waving in the wind this time of year.

The dark butterfly is a Pipeline Swallowtail gorging nectar on a purple thistle and the light colored butterfly is a White Peacock among wild violet petunias.
