Two years after shooting Anastasia at VWU on a last minute booking (that has since turned into a wonderful partnership with Wesleyan), I was given an opportunity to take a swing at Anastasia again, and what a joy it was. VMT's production was absolutely gorgeous and was such a fun challenge!

Been a REALLY hard start to 2026 for me, but getting to spend time just having fun and creating with the incomparable Brianna-Lynn Baker a few days ago was a step forward.
Thank you to the absolutely lovely Virginia Photos and Films for allowing us to rent your space. Fantastic studio that I'm going to be returning to, time and time again.

JSP hit another milestone last night, with my 150th theatre shoot! ODU Rep Theatre was the first theatre that ever gave me a paid gig, and consistently has provided some of the coolest sets and lights for me to shoot, so really happy to have one of their shows be a milestone show. Last night it was "String", which opens this weekend!

I even got a little card and flower to celebrate(!), curtesy of the lovely and wonderful Hannah Sabo!

Hi friends! What a start to the year! So many good shows!

I could say a whole bunch about how difficult the start to this year has been personally, but I know much of it is shared across many of us, so I will simply post a promise to update social media more regularly and a well-timed quote.

" Theatre promotes us to give power to truth, to take risks and to advocate for new and diverse voices. Theatre reminds us that we are not alone."

What a Year!

While a wildly successful year by most metrics, it didn't come without challenges, especially near the end of the year, where health issues abounded. It was truly spectacular, though, and JSP got to see and do things I would have never even considered possible years prior. My work was the cover of a music album, on show posters in Florida, part of multiple ad campaigns, and in the mix of a stormy election season. That's on top of reasonably regular inclusions in print and TV media, and local general outreach efforts.

Going to do the by the numbers a bit differently this year, focusing solely on the theatre work.

2024 JSP Theatre Photography, by the numbers:
49 shows shot at 15 different Theatres/performance locations, for 17 different organizations, directed by 33 different directors.

The 49 shows were made up of:
26 Plays
13 Musicals
4 Cabarets
3 Concert-style Events
2 Dance Events
1 Awards Show

Of these shows, I shot:
-21 shows were led by majority non-male or majority non-white casts.
-12 promo shoots that were shot and used for promotional material for shows.
-8 shows that were in a workshop/in-development status.
-6 Shows that were on my theatre photography bucket list were shot.
-6 Shows with Jessi DiPette in the cast, making her, for the third straight year, the actor I've shot in the most shows this year.
-2 plays written by William Shakespeare, making 2024 the first year I've shot more shows written by Shakespeare (2) than written about Shakespeare (1). In my total 105 shows over four years, it's currently tied 4-4, with 2 about and 1 by currently scheduled to be shot in the next few months.
-1 show had a set designed for total accessiblity for people with disabilities.
-1 Upcoming Photoessay.

My goal in 2024 was: "Bring joy, kindness, a happy spirit, and the best of my craft to every shoot I do." The only people who can judge on whether I succeeded in this are all of the actors, production staff, and theatre staff I interacted with this year, but I feel I did so to the best of my ability.

My goal for 2025 is simply to continue to grow, and to give myself both grace and space for recharging.

A big thank you this year to everyone who I partnered with, including but not limited to The Zeiders American Dream Theater, Children's Theatre of Hampton Roads, Little Theatre of Norfolk, Little Theatre of Virginia Beach, TCC Theatre, ODU Rep Theatre, The Arts at Virginia Wesleyan University, Virginia Stage Company, Ballet Virginia, The Underground Performing Arts Collective - UPAC, Rouge VA, Wisdom Heart Theater, Generic Theater, Joyful Art Productions, The HRACT Awards, The Naro Theatre,Old Donation School, Ashlee Ward, Operation Smile, Serenity Jones, Derrion La'Zachan, Tré Porchia, Amy Harbin, Andre Magalhaes, Sofia Magalhaes, Isis Marne, Sean Douglas Thompson, Kerri Crosby, Jessi DiPette, Sam Flint, Maryanne Kiley, CORE Theatre Ensemble, Joseph White, Moriah Joy, Kelly Gilliam, Akin Ritchie, and Cristina Rose. If I left you off this list, I assure you it was unintentional and I love you all. Thank you to all these partners for providing me the support, resources, and opportunities to help me grow JSP into a successful Theater Photography organization. I hope that every picture I've delivered to you has exceeded your expectations and that we will continue to have a thriving partnership in 2025 and beyond.

Haven't stayed healthy much this month, but I was happy to have kept it together for a few days long enough to shoot these two wonderful shows: The Eras Holiday Cabaret at Little Theatre of Norfolk and The Underground Performing Arts Collective - UPAC's Soulful Christmas at The Zeiders American Dream Theater. Both were so much fun and so wonderful. This weekend is the last weekend for both, catch them while you can!

Tonight is a pretty special night for me. Production Shoot #100. I did 5 shows the first year. 19 in 2022. 31 in 2023. Tonight will be my 45th show of this year.

I'm really grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey so far with me. The support, friendship, professionalism, and kindness in the arts in this area is spectacular, and I am eternally grateful.

Big thanks to Little Theatre of Virginia Beach, Little Theatre of Norfolk, The Zeiders American Dream Theater, ODU Rep Theatre, The Arts at Virginia Wesleyan University, Rouge VA, TCC Theatre, Children's Theatre of Hampton Roads, The Underground Performing Arts Collective - UPAC, CORE Theatre Ensemble, Ballet Virginia, Generic Theater, and Virginia Stage Company. Whether they let me shoot one show or two dozen, it's all been a part of my growth and only possible because these theatres/arts groups gave me an opportunity.

Now let's see how quickly I can get to 200.

Theatre friends!!

My power pack for the my flashes has been missing for a few weeks now (although I only realized it Monday). I'm *pretty* sure it got stolen on a location shoot, but I wanted to check with all of you first that I didn't leave it at a theatre, in hopes that it's the case.

If you have been/are going to be at LTVB or LTN the next few days, please keep an eye out for this and let me know if you've seen it!

I can't think of two more different shows to shoot back-to-back (-to-back) than these two, but they were both tremendous.

Sweeney Todd opens TOMORROW at Little Theatre of Norfolk.

Chicago opens TONIGHT at The Arts at Virginia Wesleyan University

Highly recommend both. Brilliant casts, brilliant performances, brilliant tech work.
