Go there early before they open, before sunrise when there’s just a pretty predawn light, not unlike dusk but different somehow. A rosy warmth pushing past and down the blue skied streets awaking up ever so slowly. And Everyone’s in a good mood before their day begins - now, in this moment there is great promise for good things to come.

FROM a story we did on prisoners and pets program at Lorton Correctional for Washingtonian Magazine.
Lorton, just south of DC, was overcrowded and eventually closed. I have no idea if a program like this exists today, but it did seem to be a sweetly embraced by those we photographed - in a place that was certainly dank and depressing.
