Did you know that an American White Pelican's weight ranges from 7 to 20 lbs!?

I am always so fascinated every time I look at the massive legs and webbing of Pelicans!

Additionally, unlike the familiar Brown Pelican, American White Pelicans don't plunge into the water for their food. Rather, they swim along the surface and dip down to catch prey.

Featured below, we have:
- Goose close-ups from Gillette, WY
- A chipmunk near Mount Rushmore
- Ducklings in the river near Big Thunder Gold Mine
- Pronghorn (aka "Speed Goats") bedded in Custer State Custer State Park
- Bison herd in Custer State Park

Day 2:

Participated in the Gillette Gun Club Father's Day Weekend Buckle Shoot.

It is a great facility and some absolutely wonderful people!

They also had a few pronghorn (which are everywhere here) that were hanging around the club!

Plus, we found a goose crossing with plenty of goslings!

All pull of my favorite prairie dog photos I took yesterday!

I found it fascinating how many people just drove past the prairie dog towns and heard, "Oh, it's just prairie dogs".

Not only are prairie dogs cute as heck but they are also a keystone species of the Great Plains. Their digging not only aerates the soil, but their abandoned homes leave housing for dozens of other animals, such as burrowing owls, badgers, and the endangered black-footed ferret.

I strongly encourage everyone to watch out for prairie dog towns and take a break to listen and observe them.
