Maternity shoots are always so beautiful to capture, but even more so when you’ve also photographed the couple after their engagement. Congratulations to Lubna & Tom on their new path to the transformative chapter of parenthood ♥️

Never do I cheese so much during a photo shoot, as I do when I’m taking newborn pictures. So incredibly heartwarming and such an honor to be able to capture these precious moments. To make it even more special, this baby girl is draped in her mother’s Indian wedding dupatta (headscarf). ‏

"Muslim, Palestinian, American, covered, woman: all are part of the compilation of identities that contribute to who I am and where I am today. My diversity is your blessing and yours mine. We learn about shared and disparate experiences through active listening of others and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. And through these moments we lift ourselves up, we lift others up. This is one of the many beauties of our being. I feel that each of our purposes in life is similar, if not the same, and that is that we are here to help one another."

This month, as part of our ongoing diversity series, we'll be sharing first-person stories of Muslims in America with our hashtag . Read the full post https://on.natgeo.com/2GXWnoJ and this month's feature story about Muslims here: https://on.natgeo.com/2GXg9R2

I had the pleasure of spending this past Friday with Zarqa Nawaz, creator of Little Mosque on the Prairie and author of Laughing All the Way to The Mosque. If you've read her book or attended her talks, it's easy to get a sense of her light hearted nature.

I picked this picture for just that reason. This is Zarqa Nawaz. She makes you laugh and brightens your day with her company. MashaAllah :)

Check her out at Busboys and Poets (5th and K) this Thursday night 7-9pm

Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.
-Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

Late night photo editing: This has got to be one of the cutest ones ever! The graduate was fixing her lip gloss when her grandfather came over to her. She said, "He's been making me take off make-up since I was 8." But this time he took it and applied it for her.
