Hideki Uda wins Japan’s first -ever Paralympic triathlon silver medal in the men’s PTS4 class. The road to Paralympic Games for Uda has been bumpy, only 5 days after marrying to his wife Aki, he was involved in a life - threatening accident at his work place in 2013. He was 26 years old. Thanks to the tireless supports of his families and friends, he was able to bounce back. He found triathlon about 6 months after the accident. He made his triathlon debut for Japan in 2015. “ when I finished the race, I had a hard time controlling my emotions because I was overwhelmed with various feelings. I felt really happy running that finish stretch.” #パラリンピック

Extremely honored to photograph very personal and important moments and learn their precious stories.
Image 1-6: John Schoon (IL), a Gulf War Veteran visits the wall twice a year and pays respect to his family friend, Kenneth C Frazer, who was killed while he was carrying his friend as a medic. Kenneth was a top student in a class where John's father was teaching at McKendree College, he opposed to the war, went to Vietnam as a medic.
"Thank you for taking photos" said John. This is a healing place for me, I need to get it out of my system. I would like to come and get close to this wall, I want to be present to let him know that we honor him and always remember him although I am not sure if this makes any difference...."
I said “ it does” and promised to pray. Amazing encounter.
