In a world inundated by photography, it strikes me as silly to have a specific . The medium of photography has become ubiquitous, for better and for worse. I think that is what has kept me from posting for so long.

I needed a break. I needed to rethink photography, especially when photography as a career choice was so devastating to me during the pandemic. So I'm coming back slowly.

If you are curious about the world and want to get these little photographic postcards from my travels on your devices, I'm doing this for you. The wonder of the world is too amazing not to share.

On a recent expedition with / to the Kimberley region of Western Australia, we landed on a beach at dawn to be greeted by this young male dingo. He was so curious about his visitors and trotted around the beach checking all of us out. Naturalist Adam Woolcott caught the last image of me in action having a one-on-one moment with this beautiful wild dog. This morning was a gift and one of the highlights of the entire trip.

I have to admit that it has been a while since I've shared here. The pandemic disrupted my life in many ways but also opened possibilities with other aspirations, like starting a flower farm (more on that later). But over the last few years, in between learning how tough flower farming can be, I've been working on some book projects for National Geographic, one of which was published last month....

I always say, selfies in moderation. I often feel like I'm the one who is in the way of all the selfie-takers when I'm trying to capture this beautiful world (usually without my face in the photo too!).

"I wish social media were full of pictures of the gorgeous, miraculous world."

We should beware what happens when we make ourselves the center of the photograph, and the center of the world itself.

Sunset came quickly over Princess Margaret Bay in Bequia, but that is how sunsets happen the closer you get to the Equator. I tore myself away from the beach, leaving newfound friends () who were playing volleyball, to rush along the waterfront walk in order to catch the last tender back to the Sea Cloud, the gorgeous vessel I'm traveling on in the Caribbean Sea.

Iceberg A76A 🧊😮

On November 16, we navigated past Iceberg A76A, which calved from the Ronne Ice Shelf in Antarctica in June of 2021. It measures about 3500 square kilometers and is roughly twice the size of London.

As the National Geographic Endurance navigated (for hours!) alongside this hulking piece of ice floating in the Southern Ocean, I couldn’t wrap my brain around its massive size…and even fathom how much ice was underwater.

When this floating behemoth breaks apart one day, it won’t raise the sea level. I love to think about what beautiful forms it will take as it slowly melts into the sea.

Emperor Penguins! 🐧🐧🐧

I’m in Antarctica again and this time I’m on board the National Geographic Endurance with Lindblad Expeditions/Nat Geo Expeditions. We were able to navigate into the Weddell Sea and take a walk on the fast ice (sea ice that is connected to land) near Snowhill Island. We had the great fortune of crossing paths with five emperor penguins who came up so close to us that we had to continually back away to keep the 15 feet of distance required. In my experience coming to Antarctica, it is quite a rare experience to even see one emperor penguin at a great distance, so to see these birds was amazing. I couldn’t believe I was able to make a portrait of three in one frame.
