It's been a lot going on y'all. But mostly in a good way. There's been other things going on, but there's no need to expound on all that.

What have I been doing anyway?

I started mental health therapy last Friday.

That has been 20 years in the making. I did it! I have deep lows & steep highs. Managing PTSD for 2 decades has been hard. But after that major crash last August tho, and all the other compound trauma happening at the same time, really was the icing on top.

And speaking of manic highs.

I also rearranged my small art studio after adding a 6ft table. I needed that thing so bad. Then, I moved an old area rug from the livingroom into the the studio. It's much more inviting and creatively encouraging.

But the truth of the matter is that mental health and physical exhaustion & chronic pain play a huge role as far as creating art goes.

I'm going to persist tho.

My first handcut collage in 20 years.
Simple. Otherworldly. Awesome. I like it.
My precision cutting skills are on point.
I'll probably add more to this; off and on.

Only 3 original Mississippi inklings left.

Sold another MS painting to someone at church yesterday. && They paid me more than what I was asking for. I'm so grateful.

They also asked me about another piece I've posted because their mother really loves it. She's already got a frame in mind for it. So, that means she's dreaming about it. That alone made my day, and I haven't even sold the painting to her yet. Originally, when they showed me a screenshot and asked if it was still available, I said..."Not for sale!" so fast. It's because I love it so much. Side note: the painting IS listed FOR SALE. Haha! But. Iearning how much their mom loves it, I really need to get her that inkling painting.

Half of doing art is the release. The other half is people enjoying my art parts and displaying them; loving them as much as I do.

Ohhhkay. Now that I got my side quest finished....I'll be cranking out collages.

Got a few ideas floating around my head.

I've been working on my exacto knife skills. And I ain't too bad at it, y'all. Much better than using my super cute and fancy tiny scissors.

Book signing & release party is Sunday, May 31st at Proud Larrys in Oxford, MS. && There's gonna be live tunes by Bark, too. A time is to be had. And you're gonna wanna be there.

They asked for a dozen. There's 16 in this haul. Thanks again, to Tim and Susan Lee, for reaching out to me about making some limited edition bookmarks inspired by, and to be paired with, Will's book — The Oddest Sea. Say that book title quick enough and it sounds like "The Odyssey". Y'all see what Will did there?! Anyway. I did my best at pulling some inspiration from Will's book cover, which also happens to be one of his original paintings.

Currently. With this commissioned collaboration bookmark haul thing.

&& I'm kinda hyped. Because. Y'all.

So far, my bookmarks are definitely hitting hard with the book art I'm pulling inspiration from. I ain't mad about it. The orange area is the original art/book. My favorite color pallet is more like bloody noses and roses vibes. && They're all full of intended paint cracks...to match the vibe of the book's contents.

This has been fun tho. Big THANKS to Cool Dog Sound for contacting me about cranking out some bookmarks to pair with Will's book for the release party. I'm just happy to be kinda part of this. I have more work to do with 'em. I've got to create backings since there's paint all over the backside. I also want to make another master board or two today. I already have the amount requested. I want more for them to choose from tho.

Something in the making. With? Wait for it. Some BOOKMARKS! Haha!

I said I was done with them, for now, to focus on other art things. Apparently, that was a lie.

&& I couldn't say no to this. Because. I already have bookmarks cut. The exact amount needed actually. Just hanging around to be used up. Can't lie tho. I'm kinda intimidated by the collab. I never get asked these kinds of things. It's rare. But mainly 'cause I think this is a pretty cool c'mission. And. I'm here for it.

C'missions really psyche me out.
&& It's stupid for me to be like that.

I'm excited tho.

I definately don't have a clue what I'm doing. It'll hit me. The plan is to explore enough to be able to make more bookmarks than what is needed...just to have options. And to have enough for leftovers, too.

Ya know — overdo it?!

Alright. Bye.

Super old books — the kind with the pages that feel like elementary school construction paper. Age tinted pages full of haunting black and white portraits, paintings and illustrations.

I love those the most.

I have a good bit of them. I always find them in the wild, and for the keeping. Or maybe these books find me? It doesn't matter.

Between these old books I've got, and the magazines I acquired this weekend, I've been occupied with creative foraging.

I'm just over here frolicking thru the wild of yesteryear and lives past. Thinking of collages; both analog and gelli printed. Worlds and places that don't exist but might rightly so. Since, after all, they are worlds made up from my very mind. Mind. Thought. So, as for the thought of a nonexistent world goes, then...it must exist? Right? Somehow, it exists?!

Who knows? Cause I don't even know what I will come up with with all these and that; this stuff. I'm just enjoying the process of the looking...and the gathering.

Today's project — Pocket Prayer Shrine

This Altoids tin is from a care package given to me by one of my husband's students when I first came home from being hospitalized after that crash. 🥹🖤 I've held onto it this long because I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. These tins are too cool to throw away. And I'm just using scraps. Waste not!

Might add more to it later.

I'm happy with how it turned out. Kind of feel like it needs something else tho. But. I'm thinking less is more in this case. I'm leaving the outside as it is. Painting it would just end up looking a mess with wear and tear.

It's the perfect size to hold my little 33 knot prayer rope "bracelet". It's stretched out enough now that it is too big for my wrist. And it's perfect for throwing in my tote bag.

SHIPPING 📬 UPDATE

All sales are final.

Once your parcel is put into the US postal system, it's no longer in my hands or my responsibility. You are responsible for paying for the type of shipping used for your delivery.

Okay y'all. So. I just got back from the post office. They raised their prices (again) a few days ago. Their rates go up 2 to 3 times per year. And. It sucks.

Standard shipping is the most affordable.
I charge $3 to cover shipping and the packaging on regular and large envelopes.

Y'all, this is the lowest rate possible.
The more weight, the more fees tho.

However...

That does not cover tracking. Tracking rates start at $7 on standard and large envelopes that are within the weight limit. That's not even insured (so if something is lost or damaged the costs can be reimbursed). The pricing for that is astronomical. Then you've got to add the tracking costs to that.

Not to mention, I can not duplicate original art in order to replace something that might get damaged or lost. Prints of things would be one thing. But, I don't currently offer prints.

For example: to send off 3 bookmarks (at a sale price of $12 total) inside of a 5x7 envelope with tracking would cost the customer $8 to $8.50. Without tracking, standard first-class mail is just $3. That's the starting rate. Neither of those are insured rates. So, if something is lost or damaged, it's a total loss.

In others words — SHIP AT YOUR OWN RISK.
