One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer is capturing the moments you didn’t even know were happening.

And if you’ve worked with me before, you know that I always check in with you before we finish portraits to see if there are any specific photos you still want captured.

So when I asked Jason and Andrea if there was anything else they wanted, Andrea turned to Jason to look for his answer and to my surprise, he said yes.

I looked at Andrea, she looked at me, and I think we were both equally intrigued because let’s be real, it’s not every day that the groom is the one who has a specific photo request.

And then Jason reached into his pocket and ever so slyly pulled out a whole line of ultrasound photos.

They were expecting a baby. 🤍

And for once, the person who spends the entire wedding day watching for surprises, anticipating reactions, and capturing moments other people don’t see coming…

was the one being surprised because let’s be real, I did NOT see that coming.

I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment, that feeling, that couple.

There I was, expecting one last pose request, and instead I was being trusted with this incredibly exciting secret and getting to document the very beginning of an entirely new chapter in their lives.

There are so many reasons I love photographing weddings, but moments like this are at the very top of the list.

I spend your wedding day capturing the moments you didn’t see coming.

Jason and Andrea gave me one I didn’t see coming. 🥹🤍

And I think that’s why this one will always hold a special place in my heart.

We traveled all of fairy land just to try to get little sister to come a little faster. Bad news is it didn’t work. Good news is that big sister had a blast with her map and telling us where to take pictures.

She’s such a silly goose too!! 🌻🔆

My motto is that you never fully understand how much emotion and dedication was put into a single detail. If it is at the wedding, take pictures of it all. Take multiple pictures of it. It can carry more weight than you can imagine.

Hi, I’m Nichole 👋🏼
The one usually hiding on the other side of the camera.

If you’ve landed here recently, I figured I should probably introduce myself.

I’m the photographer behind Photography by Strain, mostly serving Connecticut and New York (but also other parts of New England) and documenting everything from proposals and weddings to growing families and all the chaos that comes after “I do.”

I’m also a wife, mom of two little girls, animal lover, Diet Coke drinker, coffee enthusiast, and someone who would choose being outside over being inside pretty much any day.

But when you hire me, you’re getting a little more than someone who shows up with a camera.

I’m the person fixing your veil, keeping your timeline moving, learning your family members names, making sure you know what to do with your hands, and probably pulling something oddly specific out of my camera bag when someone needs it.

My photography is a mix of the moments I gently guide when needed and the ones I know well enough to leave completely alone. I want you to have the beautiful portraits for the frames and the photos you didn’t even realize were happening.

Basically, I want your photos to look like your life actually felt.

So whether you’ve been following me for years, just found me today, or you’re quietly lurking because you might need a photographer someday… hi. I’m really glad you’re here. 🤍
