Yesterday in Central Park with Nina and Michael.

Raised on the UES, it was important for Nina to have photographs of her and Michael in the place so close to her heart. The iconic backdrops of where she was raised are woven into the love story that has presently taken them away from New York, but never far.

They’ll be back together in Manhattan for their wedding at Chelsea Piers next month. Can’t wait!

Before Amy and Jonathan’s rehearsal dinner we took some photographs around the family home. I set Amy up for a portrait here on the wrap around porch. The same one that she ran around on as a child. As soon as she was in position everyone came out and filled the frame with a little chaos. We laughed, and I didn’t hesitate. I shot the frame anyway. Full of family, life, and love, this porch holds more than a picture. And I can’t help but think this is the way it was supposed to be.

I heard LCD Soundsystem for the first time at this wedding. The guests wore colorful crowns and played with toy parachuters at dinner. The wedding party was swimming in the ocean when I arrived. The bride did her own makeup and her hair was still wet when I got there.

These photos move backwards from night to day. A slow dissolve. Two really cool people bringing their lives together together. The chemistry and magic.

I messaged Nike the night before the wedding- I can’t wait to see you shine tomorrow, even if the sun itself doesn’t come out. The sun, in fact, did not come out and Nike did, in fact, shine. Her brother in the final hour, reworked the mood board and we turned up the dial on a wet & foggy NYC vibe.

Disappointment doesn’t come from rain. Disappointment comes from attachment to expectations. So, when couples are open to multiple outcomes, magic happens. It’s an analogy for life. These weddings, microcosms of who we are. The less tightly we hold the plan, the more something unexpected gets to meet us there.
