Thank you, Baker Mansion, and thank you, Altoona. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This was the finest event we’ve done all year. I was quite literally not prepared for the love we were shown this weekend - we shot and shot until we ran out of plates and almost out of developer. We were given the opportunity to make tintypes on the grounds of a magnificent 1840s mansion, and it couldn’t have proved a more beautiful setting. We made images of both reenactors and visitors and captured them all with magic in a frozen frame of time. In between each plate, we shared conversation with dozens of wonderful people about the joys of wet plate photography. As tired as my body and mind are right now, this was good for my soul. Once again, thank you, Railroad City - I can’t wait to come back.

Keystone Tintype is on the march again to another historical event! This time we’re headed up into the mountains to Pennsylvania’s Railroad City, Altoona. We’ll be setting up our tent on the lawn of the beautiful Baker Mansion, an elegant Greek Revival home built in the 1840s by one of Altoona’s great industrial families. This weekend’s event, titled “A Mansion Divided,” will highlight the Civil War history of the Railroad City, as well as the diverging loyalties of some of the mansion’s wartime inhabitants. 👀 I can’t wait to see what I can capture through my camera this weekend at the Baker Mansion!

COMING THIS SATURDAY: Tintype photography on the patio at Michaux Brewing in Waynesboro, PA! You guys know Brandon? Y'know, your third or fourth favorite bartender at Michaux? Turns out he's also a photographer! With a REALLY OLD CAMERA.

Come join us on the patio at Michaux on Saturday, August 22 12-4 PM for your very own handmade portrait, crafted with silver and light on a plate of metal. Portraits are first come, first served! Show up, show out, dress sharp (or not!), and be you in a handcrafted heirloom to last through the ages.

I'm so thankful to Landis Valley Museum in Lancaster for hosting me this past weekend! It was hot and humid, but getting to spend time at such a gorgeous site and talk to people about the wonders of Civil War era photography was such a joy. I'll share some more shots from the weekend soon. I can't wait to get back out to Landis Valley next year!
