This semester, I had the privilege of taking my first official photography class. I was to make a photo journalism style portfolio and these photos reflect growth in using photography as an artistic storytelling tool, blending my newly advanced technical skills with intentional choices to evoke feeling memory, and place for everyone involved.
I chose to photograph an abandoned house across from my friend’s
apartment on Findley Alleyway in Waynesburg, PA. I titled this piece, “The Remains of 247,” as
I wanted to capture the quiet erosion of a rural Pennsylvanian home. The series of photos shows a home frozen in time, with the growth of life, death, and the slow reclaiming of the home by nature. Each photo tells the story of a memory, the presence of prior homeowners, and the light shining on its decay. Each photo was selected for its ability to emotionally and visually convey this narrative. While these photos aren’t my most vibrant works, I feel that they challenged me to focus on composition, focusing my lens on the textures, lighting, and angles in these photos. I also included a bonus image to this series with an image of the rusted doorknob, while slightly out of focus, it is tightly framed, which is something that remains a struggle for me on my photography journey. Overall, using texture and contrast to mark the threshold between the past and the present with a hint of 19th-century rural housing created this profound photo-journal series.

Meet Your Photographer!

Hi! I’m Izabell, Izzy, and I’m the person behind the camera! Photography has been a passion of mine for about 12 years, but I started advancing in my equipment in 2022 🙂 I love capturing authentic moments that tell a story and create confidence! Whether it’s a candid laugh, a shared glance, or the perfect golden hour shot, my goal is to create images that feel real and meaningful.

Beyond photography, I love coffee, enjoy hiking, and LOVE music. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me snuggling up with my cat Goliath and waiting on my little boys debut🤰🏼!

✨ Favorite place to eat? A solid go to is a Chinese Buffet or Texas Roadhouse!

✨ What’s always playing while I edit? A mix of everything! Fleetwood Mac, Breaking Benjamin, Amy Lee, Shinedown, Matt Maeson, Alanis Morrisette and Lana Del Rey.

✨ Go-to coffee order? I love anything with Honey, Cinnamon, or Vanilla!
